Lash Me Up, Lash Me Down

Hi! Stevie from here with the Beauty Buzz blog/podcast for this first Tuesday in Sept! As I mentioned in other posts and this podcast (which only took four times to get it right today), mascara  is an essential to your look –particularly for Fall 2005 because the look is so rich with color and texture. Without mascara, your eyes and your face will fade into the background and that’s a definitely no-no for this season!! Minimalist is NOT the word for this season and going for broke –or baroque– is definitely something you should be doing!

I will be posting MORE about mascaras so don’t worry if I don’t mention your favorite today. If you have a mascara you want me to cover, please drop me a note or post a comment! (yes I actually read them!)

Kevyn Aucoin’s The Volume Mascara has a thin brush that allows for application at the base of lashes. It builds color and thickness consistently from the lash base to tip and without clumping! Gotta love that! It’s definitely one of the "must buys" on my list. (but then, almost everything I talk about is carefully chosen and -ouch- my credit card bill smarts!) PS. This was Kevyn’s first product to launch from his collection!  ( ,, Neiman Marcus stores and

Bobbi Brown’s Lash Glamour rocks! It’s one of the really great mascaras that can take you from day to glamourous in just a couple of coats of mascara. If you want a single mascara that can go from mild to wild, this is the mascara! The brush is unique; the grooves hold color and apply it well. I love it and use it almost daily. (Three tubes later you would think I tire of this one but I haven’t). (Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales, Neiman Marcus, )

Chanel Cils a Cils is one of my favorite mascaras. It’s the "glamourous, dramatic" mascara that I save for those times/days/evenings that I must have the thickest, flirtiest lashes.  Why not wear it everyday? Because then I would be spoiled! I appreciate the little luxuries of great mascara and this is one of those luxuries. the brush separates nicely. The special gel polymer creates a smooth silky color that goes on easily and doesn’t smudge or budge. ProVitamin B5 hydrates lashes while silk creates the thickening action. It’s one of the great mascaras–but then of course it is! It’s Chanel! Don’t forget about the sensational color choices!! (Saks Fifth Avenue, Sephora, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales,,

Estee Lauder Lash XL Maximum Length Mascara is a great mascara for evenings out but I love it for the daytime. It offers great definition and also long lashes! It wears well and doesn’t look overdone for the daytime but looks fab when 2 or more coats are applied or when used with a colored layer. The brush offers great precision! It comes in black, brown, navy and charcoal (love that option for a not quite black lash. It’s much softer!) (Dillards, Macys, Bloomingdales, Nordstrom,

Pout Mascara offers you a  vintage inspired case and a retro-look for mascara wands. This narrow wand is full of ridges so you can get to the base of lashes easily and roll out the color precisely while giving you great lash definition. Color builds up easily too. It’s a great little mascara and the color doesn’t smudge off either! (thumbs up!) (,; select Sephora and Victoria Secret stores and Henri Bendel)

Paula Dorf is known for great wearable cosmetics. Her line can take you from casual to dress and keep you looking like you (and not some stranger in some strange make-up).  Paula Dorf Cosmetics Mascara  is a great find: smudge-proof, flake-proof and fiber -free, it’s friendly to those with contacts or sensitive eyes (raising hand here!) Love the smooth formula. Love the deep thick brush even more!  Better yet, I love the colors of this mascara. I  love color–don’t get me wrong– but I like some things to have subtle color and that’s what this mascara has–subtle color. The blackberry shade is my favorite since I wear it during the day slicked over whatever black mascara I have. It adds just the perfect hint of color and creates a thicker, fringy lash look too.  If  great lashes are on your personal menu, get the Dorf mascara and do me a favor.. try the color! (,, Bergdorf Goodman,

Bourjois’s Pump Up the Volume Mascara is one of my favorites. It’s so much a favorite that I have it in 4 of the five colors it comes in: black, brown, blue, prune (plum) and khaki (olive green). Ok.. I have to tell you I gave the blue one away to a girlfriend who was dying to have it when she saw it.   ( I share!!) Bourjois states that this mascara is a lot like a push-up bra for lashes and I have to agree! It does "pump up the volume" with thickness, length and some curl while giving you a serious blast of color.  The silicone formula  and thick brush makes it easy to separate and lengthen lashes while you color them. Piece of cake and please don’t tell me you can’t decide which one to buy. I can’t either, so I got them all. Love this one and the price is perfect! (Sephora;, Ulta)

Lancome  has some of the best assortment of mascaras around. If there’s something you need in a mascara, Lancome has it!  My favorite is the  Hypnose  mascara. This ultra-rich, ultra-thickening, ultra-lengthening does everything in one easy tube. This is one of my "killer" mascaras. When I am heading out for the night or need to look amazing, I reach for this mascara.  This baby "supersizes" your lashes to beyond maximum! It’s incredible to see lashes get thicker, longer and –well–sexier! Comes in black or brown– choose one or both. Makes no difference. Sexy lashes coming at ya! (Nordstrom, Macys, Bloomingdales, Saks Fifth Avenue,

Yves Saint Laurent is one of the couture lines of cosmetics. It’s unique colors, textures, presentations, it boggles the mind!  The Intense Lengthening Mascara is right up there amongst my favorites. It’s a favorite of many because it’s always out of stock! So I use carefully and "choose wisely" when I decide to use this one. I am a sucker for interesting color and this mascara has it in spades: black, brown, emerald, denim blue, shimmering violet and golden khaki. It’s  too hard to choose but choose you must. The color goes on smoothly and it lengthens nicely. I love it for a layer of mind-blowing color over black mascara. I have the golden khaki and use it during the day to turn up the watts on my lashes because the golden khaki has just enough sparkle to make it interesting. Try the violet or emerald for fall. It’s about to get really interesting with all the choices! (Macys, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue,, Bergdorf Goodman)

Are you mascara-ed out yet? Hope not! I have a few more interesting tweaks to mascara and lashes to share with you. It’s all about giving you options and you will have plenty of those for fall and holiday 2005. After all, it’s fun shopping and being all girly!

If you have one of these mascaras, let me know. If you think I have missed a mascara or lash product, let me know!

see you at the beauty counter!
