LA Thursday Night Roadtrip Nets DVF Grand Opening and Lladro!

Just another Thursday night: way too much on the calendar as in not enough minutes in the night to hit all the parties in town. My girlfriend Annie (a writer too) and I had to pick and choose the parties du jour.

Macys Passport:
We skipped tne insanity  which had switched from a Saturday night to a Thurs. That’s just too much event and not enough time to cover it and know that we would get home before midnight.

Williams-Sonoma
Grand opening of the store on Beverly. Love the store and the products, just not my idea of a fashion event!

Other charity events at Hugo Boss, Chopard and a slew of other places were making parking hard in LA.

Diane Von Furstenberg
Now that was an event to hit. DVF opened her first LA store on Melrose Place. It was the former home of an antiques store that  was perched on a triangular corner on Melrose Place, Melrose Ave and some other little street, very close to La Cienega.  Ms. Von Furstenberg had a luncheon earlier in the day for celebrities.  So this was a definite "must do" party for the press.

With lots of glass and lots of space, the store was filled to brim with people yet not overly crowded. The valets were kept hopping and there was no wait to get in the store. Servers were circulating flutes of champagne and tall glasses of water which given the heat of the weather (which was not helping the fires that day), it was a draw on which were the preferred drinks.

Saw lots of people that I knew–other writers, magazine editors (GenLux (LA’s newest local fashion book)  Editor in Chief Jennifer Disotell and other staffers were  there)  and stylists (Tim– fabuloso  stylist to tons of celebs)  and lots of other people. Also circulating were trays of divine little snacks: squares of polenta with green vegetable puree on top, tuna tartare and the most heavenly mini  layered chiffon cake with fresh raspberries. YUM!

All the fall fashions were featured and available for purchase. Here are a few things that I have on my wish list:

Jeanne wrap dress in cranberry

Nikita dress in a gorgeous print

fab wrap sweater (to layer or not) in black, grey, deep red or olive green. This is on my must buy list.

Also featured was the new Diane Von Furstenberg jewelry collection for H. Stern. EVERY different collection was featured there (with its own security team too). My favorite was the Sutra Collection.

Sutra Collection Multi-color Pave Bracelet  in the bold size. This is stunning in real life.

The DVF handbags were pretty popular considering that we all were drooling over them.  This is the medium hobo bag.

Celebs who attended the cocktail party who must have hit it early included Alexis Bledel (Gilmore Girls), Joely Richardson (Nip/Tuck); Alexis and Tatiana Von Furstenberg,  Davis Factor (Smashbox Studios), Fern Mallis (Sixth on Seventh), Wolfgang Puck, Rachel Zoe (stylist)  and lots of other cool people.

Check out the new store at 8407 Melrose Place,West Hollywood, Cal.–just east of La Cienega.
323.951.1947. If you want any of the clothing seen on dvf.com, you can buy it at the store and there are more colors available in store then online. If you call, ask to speak to Sonya Borba, the assistant manager of the store. She’s so helpful and really friendly. I love her eyes!

We had to scurry as the sand was running out of our clock for the next party – a charity event at Lladro’. We  zipped around the traffic and up the back streets of Beverly Hills heading to Rodeo Drive.  It was weird out because at just past 8 PM it was still exceptionally warm out plus the closer you got to the 405, the more smoke you could smell. (the fires in the hills)

While I missed a few navigation points (uh.. I was starving), we finally got to Lladro’.  The Lladro’ party was to honor 3 time Emmy winner Stephanie Medina Rodriguez, Director of Public Affairs, KCBS/KCAL television, for her yaers of contributions to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, LA County.

This lovely space was filled with beautiful sculptures and pieces and also beautiful people.  Lucky for us,   Vox Vodka was pouring as well as Starbucks Coffee Liquer for some amazingly luscious drinks. Montecito Winery  was pouring a selection of wines with delectable food from DAVID Catering. The desserts were divine. The store even had a couple of musicians playing upstairs which was so beautiful to hear the music waft down .

I met some very interesting people: Lorenzo Bavadi a business magnet with European credentials   (think investor, art patron and producer) who has just launched an exotic and luxury car rental service in LA! Princess Ann Claire, singer royale, launches her newest EP very soon. This very lovely person talked about throwing a big hoedown type party during LAFW for designers who are sort of wiped out. It will include some great champagne and cheetos! (my kind of party!) Avo Yermagyan, Gaudy PR was there — such a sweetie and very good at what he does (including parties like WeHo Magazine’s launch party a couple weeks ago at Prey). Also on the scene was cutie actor Brian Toth, whose name you will soon hear on everyone’s lips after January’s Sundance Film Festival. He’s in a hot new film and we will see more of him. He did a  mod version of a Billy Idol hair style that was quite cool–right down to the blonde locks and paired it with a very Euro suit.

We looked at the most gorgeous statues and ceramics from Lladro’. I had no idea that each piece was so intricately made. One couple bought a 40K train set because it was so amazing.

After splitting a chocolate tart with liquid caramel filling and a soft meringue topping with my friend Annie, we hit the road and head back home.

I am trying to scavenge some photos.

That’s the Thurs Night 9/29 LA Story!
