A Bird In Hand is DEFINITELY MORE than One on Your Shoulder.

Handbags are often a mixed blessing — clutches don’t often hold enough. Totes are often too bulky and lack the fashion “joie de vive” that we crave and need.  Shoulder bags are a mixed “bag” (pun intended): while we love slinging the bag over our shoulder,  I for one often over-fill it with stuff  (makeup, papers,  cell, wallets, keys, and much more)  that makes the bag so heavy that it makes my shoulder hurt.  I wonder why I have neck pain when I am out and about in LA collecting info for various assignments–it’s because of the over-filled shoulder bag.

It’s not just me doing this– multi-taskers across the country and moms are particularly guilty of this. I used to carry a Lands End Diaper bag as my all-purpose bag when my little one was really a “little one”. (She’s not little anymore!). It was so big and clunky!

Thanks to Bird in Hand designer  Rachel Sarnoff — multi-tasker extraordinaire with two kids and a LA PR whiz– we can now breathe a sigh of relief because there is a dynamite bag that can handle laptops, paperwork,–even bottled water– with a place for everything that one might need.. with a very vegan-friendly attitude and a lot of fashion savvy. It works as a tote or handbag for the person off to work as well as a great diaper or toddler bag for moms with kids in tow.

Sarnoff created this bag and ran it by MD’s, chiropractors,  and physical therapists to check the ergonomics of the bag design and got a thumbs up from everyone (see the website!) The  Bird in Hand Bags are meant to be carried with a large handle, clutched, or kept under the arm. This bag goes anywhere like a tote bag or a very feminine briefcase to hold papers, files, and up to a pound or so of stuff in this 15 1/2 x 11 x 4 1/2 bag.

Bird in Hand Bags feature:

  • high side pockets that keep cell phones and sunglasses within reach
  • a zippered pocket for privacy and an open one for easy access
  • flat-bottom construction that allows the bag to stand up on its own
  • the wide bamboo handle can be clutched or carried on the wrist or in the crook of the arm
(the handle is large enough so that you can put it over your shoulder in a pinch)
  • vegan and cruelty-free, fabricated with an easy-to-clean faux leather exterior with a soft faux suede interior.

The interior features a nice design –different for each color

When looking at and inspecting this bag, it doesn’t feel or look like faux leather. It has a nice pebbled finish and a snap/magnetic lock closure for the flap.   The  Bird in Hand logo is discretely embossed in the lower right corner. It’s elegance and snappy flair make it the ideal daytime or travel bag.

It’s price tag is remarkably affordable when you realize the attention to detail that Sarnoff has put into this bag! Even celebs like Alicia Silverstone, Nia Vardalos (above), and  Maria Menounos  (below) love these bags and are often seen carrying them.

Now the key question is where to buy these great bags!

Problem solved:
Try Bird in Hand website now or these great LA stores in spring 2006!

Polkadots & Moonbeams Modern Wear
8381 West Third Street;  West Hollywood, CA 90048; 323-655-3880

Point de Vue
152 North Wetherly Drive;  West Hollywood, CA 90048; 310-273-1231

I have one of these bags and it’s replacing most of my bags for daytime use particularly when I am working since it’s exceptionally fashionable and easy to carry, clean, and is exceptionally well-organized. (no more lost keys, sunglasses, or cell phone!)

Make sure if you get one of these bags, mention that you heard about it here on the LA-Story.com!

That’s another LA-Story!

  1. Beware The Bird in Hand. My husband purchased one of these for me for Christmas after hearing about it on CNN and thinking I would like it. Definitely a mistake – not my sort of bag (vinyl and bamboo? WHAT was he thinking)….
Anyway, Ms. Sarnoff refused to take the bag back and refund our money – in direct conflict with her website’s claim that she wants her customers to be happy with their purchase and offering a full refund for unused bags.
    Buyers BEWARE.

  2. I am sorry that you were unhappy with the gift. I know that the site makes it abundantly clear that it’s vegan (meaning non leather) and the vinyl isn’t typical “vinyl”–it’s doesn’t smell plastic or fake. I have one of these bags and used it when attending various Golden Globe events and had some people ask me where to find one. It fit well onto my shoulder, held a ton of stuff from events and took me from day to night. I have heard from a couple people that didn’t like the color of their bag that Ms. Sarnoff was very helpful in refunds and exchanges..
    I wonder what miscommunication occurred?
