Phillip Bloch, Star Magazine & Flexees Want to Make You Over!! Contest Alert!

During “red carpet week” — the week before any event like the 2009 Emmys, there’s a ton of stylists and style experts (make-up, fitness & hair around). I had a chance to talk to Phillp Bloch, noted stylists to a “who’s who” of celebrities (Halle Berry, Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Lopez and the list runs on for miles).

Bloch was doing a day of interviews before the Emmys and he’s really fun when he gets turned lose on the tips and trends of the red carpet– particularly since he had just been at NYFW which is where he was when we spoke on the phone. Actually the trends of NYFW were what prompted the hot trends for the Emmys and he had lots to say about how influential what was seen on the NYFW 2010 spring runways would be.
He was very happy to see a lot of fresh colors on the runway, hot/neon pink being one of them– but not for the red carpet. Bloch prefers to see bright colors as a “punctuation” or statements to spice up that red carpet gown– or your everyday clothing that are in fall colors.

“During Fashion week there was a lot of hot pink, citrusy yellow, almost day glow colors. They look great in gowns, but when people want to translate them into everyday wear, I don’t want to see anyone looking like a hot mess in hot pink from head to toe. Use it as an accessory color: .. , a blast of color. Try a great bright lemon yellow shoe; a great pink bag or colorful belt. When you’re wearing these deep all fall colors, it’s really fun to throw that splash of color in there.””

According to Bloch, it’s about proportion and style: a scarf, shoes, handbags and other accessories. Bright colors or interesting prints t can give a new look to an old outfit.

“Trends are made to be seen in small doses. There’s no need to scream when you can whisper.”

Phillip commented on red carpet fashion,

“We’ll see a lot of nudes, creams and champagnes. It’s going to be in for Spring 2010 as well as fall. I think we’re going to see a lot of these pops of bright color. I think we’re going to see lot of embellishment–a lot of statement necklaces are going to be on the red carpet. big opulent necklaces or a lot of bangles. It’s going to be one thing or the other. It’s not about over excessive jewelry, it’s not about tiny jewelry, but it’s about the statement pieces that make an outfit.”

One of the key aspects of celebrity dressing is that the dresses — no matter whether they are flowing gowns or tight sheaths, that the celebrities be bump and lump-free! A huge fan of shapewear and has been for eons, Bloch has partnered up with Maidenform’s Flexees because they are “breathable” and easy to wear. Anyone can wear them and not be a sausage. As Bloch said, it’s a staple in everyone’s wardrobe and that cami is perfect for hiding any lumps and bumps!
