As a member of Twittermoms.com I run across lots of interesting posts from women who have lots on their mind– far beyond fashion, shopping and beauty, it gets serious about helping moms do their jobs– both in the home and the office as well as the issues of daily living (like how to go green in a down economy and make it work!).
What’s funny is that TLC’s What Not to Wear is back with new episodes and it’s always fun to watch Stacy & Clinton teach someone how to shop. (Goodness knows I have edited some closets in my time. It sometimes takes a town or a good friend to tell you to step away from a color or a style that really does not work for you!
The most recent post that was on my radar to talk about from from the blog ShopSmartLookFab.com who asked about the top five fashion must-haves of her readership.Given that I have been giving that a lot of thought as well as a post to ask you your “must-haves” and also make some suggestions on what you might want to be buying plus what I have been jonesing for because it’s been seriously barking up my shopping tree. Given that it’s NYFW, what better time to ask about this ( though NYFW is about Spring 2010), So here’s what’s on trend and wondering what you think about this.
Trendspotting:
Boots: from booties, shooties, mid-calf & knee-high boots. No matter what is in your closet, you need something from the boot department. Suggesting flat boots or something with a lower heel. Color is nice too if you can find it.

Corduroy pants/jeans: Nothing says fall like corduroy. You can find various styles at the Gap (limited colors– some which I wouldn’t think of wearing now like bright pink, but the brown/beige color is nice and it fits pretty well. Hurry since it sells out fast). Another spot to check out is JCrew.com for a great selection of colors that are distinctly fall driven in matchstick leg, toothpick leg (think legging), trouser and boot cut.

Chunky jewelry is a great trend but finding something that’s both chunky and also elegant is a real trick. Getting it at a steal of a price means you should be buying it. This bracelet is chunky yet sleek because of the pearls and it’s “statement” piece stature makes it all the better because it costs less than $11.00 at forever21.com

Love the jacket look and depending on what you are looking for, you can find affordable or casual or things you can dress up and down to toughen up a dressy look or dress up a casual look. Two different jackets from The Gap.com fill the bill at less than $100.00

Gap’s Shrunken Herringbone Blazer comes in two colors for $98.00 and will take a pair of jeans and dress them up quite nicely with a great top, scarf and sandals.
Never forget the face! If you do nothing else this year, invest in some cosmetics. You can get some great shadows from the L’Oreal Hip collection in the metallics or mattes or try one gloss for an easy finish that’s really got some pop to it from the LIpstick Queen’s 15 Minute Collection.

I picked up a pair of the hot pink cords at the Gap the other day–not for me, but for my daughter! They’re great–fit and fabric are great for the price.
I’ll have to check out the J. Crew cords.
