Celebrity Style Slam: Jessica Lowndes and Paris Hilton.
Love love love this dress. It’s got style, class and sizzle- but the problem seems to be these two young women who don’t seem to have a good stylist or don’t listen on how to wear this gorgeous confection to its (and their) best advantage.
Nancy Lichtenstein and I had a bit of a dither over the fashion faux pas in each fashion moment photo.

Nancy: This strapless sequined dress from Alice + Olivia certainly isn’t retiring; it takes a bit of body confidence to get away with shiny, wide horizontal stripes across the hips and thighs, but neither Jessica Lowndes nor Paris Hilton should have any problems in that area. The dress fits Jessica better, though…maybe it’s just an awkward pose, but Paris looks like she needs a good tailor, and if you want to know the ONE thing that can impact your style the most, it’s perfect fit.
LA-Story: Have to agree that this is a fab dress. It’s not for those who lack body confidence. The problem for Paris seems to be that she doesn’t have enough of a bust-line to pull off this dress well enough. She might need a better strapless bra or some cookies to give the strapless bust of the dress some shape.

Nancy Lichtenstein: Their hairstyles are similar, and work well with the dress–kicky party dress + long loose waves is much more modern than a fussy updo.
Their makeup is also similar; I wish I could say it was also a hit. While dark, defined eyes and nude lips are in right now, there’s something very aging about this look. My mother tried to tell ME that twenty years ago and I didn’t listen to her either…so, Mom, you get to say “I told you so.” Clean skin and a red lip would look much better on both girls with this particular dress.

LA-Story.com: Love both hair styles. Sexy waves match the flirty dress. Nancy, I agree that the make-up doesn’t quite do either young woman justice. A clean very defined eye with lots of mascara and red or even a rosy pink or plummy lip would have been better. After all, both are pale– they aren’t using any bronzer– and the lack of lip color just drains their face of color because the black top of the dress drains the color right out of their faces. . It seems that Jessica has more color on the lips but her eyes are too smokey for this dress. The eyes are competing with the dress. Not a wise move here.
Nancy Lichtenstein: While Jessica wins points with fit, they could both use a little assistance with styling, though I’d say Paris is marginally the winner in this area. She has the right idea by adding a necklace–that large of an expanse of skin on top coupled with a boldly patterned skirt needs something to balance it out. However, the proportions on that one are too chunky and the point appears to be “pointing out” the ill-fitting bodice. A longer, thinner necklace, maybe with a gaudy gemstone to add a pop of color, would work better.
LA-Story.com: Agree again on the choice of accessories. Both need bags with color– contrasting to the dress for a little bit of balance. The lack of great earrings and necklace on Jessica just leaves her looking lackluster. The dress wears her, she’s not wearing it. The right accessories make a huge difference.
While Paris does have a necklace, i would not recommend something like that. The dress needs a simple yet bold pop of color with a drop either a lariat, or Y necklace to make a bigger statement. There’s too much landscape across the chest to warrant that choker. *shudder*. Where are the stylists here?
Nancy Lichtenstein: The other area where Paris needs help is below the waist. Though opaque tights are certainly versatile, they’re not the best choice with a shiny cocktail dress, and they leave me wondering, “Did she just not feel like shaving that day?”
LA-Story.com I have to agree that Paris’s outfit was ok till you get to her legs and then it goes off-kilter. it’s not opaque tight worthy. How about sheer shimmer black hosiery? There are certainly enough of them on the market. While we can’t see what shoes she is wearing — which might be a blessing– it’s hard to consider this a fashion winner outfit because of her choice of the opaque tights. Maybe if she were going goth and had blood red lips and really smoked out eyes and rocking some bracelets. What’s with the single ring that’s again lacking in color? Why the “no color” accessories? This dress needs some contrast for it and the women to shine.Did someone not take that into consideration?
Nancy Lichtenstein: Jessica’s leg wear choice is worse though. Her legs could be an asset, but wearing booties that cut them off horizontally at the ankle is not only a bizarre stylistic choice (booties are what we wear when we want to look stylish trudging through the rain, not on the red carpet!) but a terrible proportional one. I appreciate punk rock style as much as anyone, maybe more, but short black nails scream “cute girl working behind the pizza counter,” not Hollywood royalty.
LA-Story.com . I saw the shoes that Jessica had worn and shook my head. Where is her stylist? This is not the dress for “shooties/booties”. It’s a great sizzling dress. Show it off with sizzling strappy sandals or statement platforms with peep toes. No no no booties that look like they belong with a more casual outfit. It’s a real mistake. Ditto the black bag (too matchy matchy for that dress.). The black nails just says someone dropped the ball and didn’t get to her manicurist in time to change her polish. A sizzling purple or sparkling silver or even bright red, coral or pale single layer of glitter anything other than black or grey would have been better than this.
What’s unfortunatel here is that both have access to stylists. Both should listen to their stylists and start putting more thought into what they are wearing that works with the main part of their outfit. They destroyed the best part of their look du jour by wearing the wrong accessories and makeup or forgetting to add something.
This Alice + Olivia dress is phenomenal– and they both have the body to wear it. They just didn’t do their fashion home-work.
Scores
