NYFW 2010: Trendspotting on the Streets! Nancy Lichtenstein Reports on What People Wore!

Nancy Lichtenstein had her share of trend and celebrity spotting during her run at NYFW Fall 2010. Now that it’s pretty much over– except for the ‘after parties”, she’s sharing her take on what she say. Let’s see how it spins out for you and me!!

When not reporting on the shows at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week we were keeping an eye on what people were wearing, especially in the front row.
The big trends from Fall 2010 Fashion Week:
Enormously oversized bags

Olivia Palermo at Ports 1961

Fashion designer Liz Rymar (pictured with Laura Rymar) at Georges Chakra

Susan Cernek (fashion director of Glam.com), outside the tents (photo attached)
I guess they were useful for carrying around the swag? Olivia Palermo and Susan Cernek look chic to me but Liz Rymar appears to be on her way to Penn Station to catch a train to the Catskills for the long weekend.
Hats

Solange ) at Charlotte Ronson looks amazing in a kente-cloth inspired newsboy cap.
rachel zoe rodarte.jpg
Rachel Zoe at Rodarte is set for the remake of Dr. Zhivago (if that sounds snarky, it’s not meant to be– I actually love it, though I probably wouldn’t have if I’d been seated behind her).
tavi at rodarte.jpg
Tavi (infamous 14 year old blogger, also at Rodarte) looks like a bag lady who somehow got a gig as a tour guide at Colonial Williamsburg, but I can’t fault her for knowing how to get attention– how many bloggers are known at New York Fashion Week by their first name?

( PS from Stevie: Tavi, for such a “fashion maven” why the hat that makes you look like Betsy Ross? You are a young girl. You need to have a decent hat. Let’s be real here. You want to be taken seriously… then dress like it.)

Draped Scarves
Agyness Deyn alexander wang.jpg
Agyness Deyn at Alexander Wang looks frightening, and while that has a lot to do with the red eye shadow she’s wearing, the scarf isn’t helping anything.
(PS from Stevie. Quite agree that the red/rust overdone shadow along with the darker hair doesn’t do a thing for her except make her look a bit — ok a lot– goth.)
mena suvari at pamela roland.jpg
Mena Suvari at Pamella Roland has the right idea with a pop of bright color but the rest of her look is too dour for it to make much of a difference.
Designer Diego Binetti.jpg
Designer Diego Binetti does it just right at his own show. It looks effortless and organic–sorry, ladies, but the guy wins hands down on this one!

Thank you to Nancy Lichtenstein for her tremendous trendspotting and her ability to capture the sense of it all despite the chaos of the tents!
