Red Is the Color of the Month: Valentine's Day Gift Ideas!!

It’s getting time to think about that “dreaded” day– Valentine’s Day. While there are some who take it seriously– (ok,let’s talk way too seriously): brides, newlyweds and those with new babies are exempt from any put-downs from this post. So realize this is for those of you who have significant others– or have a main squeeze,, a second squeeze and even a back-up. Or maybe you are just wanting to play the field and entice someone and thus there are a number of things or ideas on the plate (literally and figuratively) that you could gift without a lot of emotional or financial investment. Also for those who gift family members, friends and such, there’s something here for everyone.
Yet on the other hand, there are those who want something really great to give to someone they really care about- even if it’s themselves — the salve for a broken heart; the reward for a new job or acing a course or something just great happening (you beat the speeding ticket).
For anyone who’s a musician– particuiarly into instruments that need a strap (guitar, sax maybe) , Julia Bristow Jewelry is a great place to check out for unique gifts. While Bristow’s talent with women’s jewelry is well-documented from using natural themes for her collections as shown in the video below but also other kinds of jewelry too.

Bristow’s creativity is amazing but what has really impressed me is that she has some killer hand-crafted guitar straps. These aren’t the “made in China” type of thing but done by Julia on her own loom and involves using 10 thousand beads (+/-) being threaded into the loom with needle and thread and then handsewn onto a cotton guitar strap.

Bristow notified me of a special Valentine’s Day promotion. Not only is she having a sale on guitar straps currently in stock — marked down to $200, but she will do a new custom-design guitar strap for the same price. How does one accomplish this?
The best bet is to contact Julia and pre-pay for the strap and have her send you a gift certificate for the recipient to be able to choose the colors, pattern and other details that they would want. it can be a very personal gift that would be well-used and greatly cherished over time.
Here’s the link to her page for the guitar straps . The guitar straps take 4-6 weeks to be made– so this is a gift that is truly one of a kind!

For those looking for a lighter hearted gift, here’s a few *cutie-pie* things I found String Dolls www.kamibashi.com (thanks to the LA-Times Image section for this one) . Shown here is the LOVER BOY (and there are lots more options on these dolls) and each are $10!

Everyone hates rough, dry, itchy skin -particularly given the type of weather being experienced across the country. Gift someone some Whoopie Cream for a soothing, rich, intoxicatingly deliciously fragrant treatment cream that will have you (and him) swooning. After all, it’s to share!!

Arcona’s in Santa Monica is offering a very special limited time offer. Hurry before this runs out. Great for both men and women– but so luxe!!
kiehls mens set.jpg
For a strictly guy gift, Kiehls has the best thing (seems there were several things in that LA Times column that I got pitched as well). This lovely assortment of grooming aids will put the shine and polish back in your man — something he probably lost in the storms of late.
Any and all of these make great gifts at virtually any time of year, though finding them year round might take some doing!
There will be more gift ideas coming!!
