Dear Juneau, Dear Xena Princess Warrior.. What Would Adam Lambert — or YOU Do?

While the video of Slash praising and talking about his mentoring of Adam Lambert plays below– it had me thinking about mentors in other directions.

What about women like us? Who mentored Juneau? Who mentored Xena and all the other women mentioned in the book or writing on WoWOW.? Doesn’t it seem a bit odd there have been few and far between mentors for women with drive and ambition?
I look at the two of you and am inspired by your accomplishments and willingness to share everything so boldly in that book. Now it with the blogs and on blogtalkradio ..
What’s meaningful to me is how this might have never occurred– the meeting of all the women — though I know it started back in the mid-90’s as the web as young and women were discovering others of like minded people and just started collaborating and talking.
That it took women that long and even another 10-15 years to get to where we are today– talking online and feeling the sisterhood — and inspiration of everyone and everything that is accomplished. Most women on the web aren’t just homebodies– even if they were they are still CEO’s of their own domain and juggle things 24/7– unlike the male counterparts who work even a 60 hour week.
What I am driving at is the appreciation I feel for you and those I have known over time– those who listened to me as I listened to them.. Those who gave me words of advice and those who quietly stabbed me in the back and twisted the blade not so cleanly– the memories are all recorded there and it’s much like the regular day to day of life itself but it feels different because the connection is different. The good connections reverberate over the web– despite the distances of countries, states and even continents. While I recently podcasted someone who talked about communities of women and building networks of friendships both near and far-flung, sometimes I wish that I could bring all those who have given me a spark , the fire that ignites within– much like I do for others (so I am told).
While I babble on facebook about how to walk in high heeled shoes and shoe styles in general with a friend in the DC area who is a working mom and also a man who is absolutely correct in how to do that –walk in stilettos. (and he’s definitely into women).
I know he’s correct because I have 2 videos on it — and they are workout videos too to teach you how to be smooth and sexy. It’s like he watched them or something but he got the anatomical and ergonomics of the movement correct. The reason why I mention this is because I directed most of my comments to the woman who I know will understand the lust for shoes– and why she requested a photo of a pair of boots I mentioned. I promptly photographed several pairs just to show her — ok everyone on facebook I guess– what I have (and that’s not all of them. eeek) Consider me the ultimate shopping princess, a junkie of all sorts. Sometimes letting the proverbial personal side show peek through the veil of editorial distance is a bit harder when one is showing the truth that lies within.
Which in turn brings me back to you Xena and Juneau who published a book without looking back or a qualm (maybe there was one or two) but you took that leap of faith into the depths of whatever was out there. The same reason that I stuck myself out on video for McAfee Fake AntiVirus Malware Initiative ; again for a local affiliate of a national channel and for a major magazine.
How is it that we can manage to do all these things without much hesitation or trepidation- did we change the rules ourselves on how to play the game in this world because the world changed quickly with the advent of the web and because we are women we are more adaptable?
It’s a thought.. and an homage to what you bring to many people. Your thoughts, voices and perspective.
