DC Ladies Bringing It Home! Working Denim into Fall Fashion!

I love the DC Ladies blog. It’s cool, interesting and has a wide range of topics (hmm sounds sort of like mine, probably why I love it so much).
Shelley is really on a role and has been covering some killer food, great commentaries and then she rolled right into fall fashion. While the great debate about skinnies being dead and the flares being the next hot look in denim (can’t prove it by my closet but then again, being petite, boot cut is my fall-back position.. but skinnies rock my world) DC Lady Sara Fortner gives you tips on how to wear the different styles — that work for real women with real budgets and regular lives.

The Great Denim Debate

It finally feels like fall in Washington, DC! This means I have officially retired my summer attire (and my favorite flip flops) and have moved on to my usual fall wardrobe of jeans, blousy tops, and dresses with tights. Like most fabulous DC ladies out there, I own quite a few pairs of jeans and tend to wear the same pair all of the time. I tend to easily get stuck in a denim rut.

While skinny jeans have dominated the past few seasons, it seems like flare and trouser jeans are making a comeback this year! So this brings me to the great denim debate – to wear skinny or to wear flare? What is a gal to do? I say wear both and make sure you know how to pull together the right look for each option.

What to Wear With Skinnys

Skinny jeans are one of my personal favorites because they look stylish with flats, and when worn with heels, they make your legs look incredibly long and lean. Since skinny jeans tend to be tighter, I usually go for them in a darker wash to dress them up a bit, and love to pair them with loose fitting blouses or with a boyfriend blazer for casual Fridays at the office. They are also perfect for tucking into my favorite fall boots and booties. Below is one of my favorite skinny jean looks. What do you typically pair with your skinny jeans?

Looking for the information on flares? DC Ladies gives you great tips.

What to Wear with Flares
I think that flare jeans always look best when worn with a high heel, and work really work well with fitted tops or blouses that can be tucked in at the waist. I think that these are the most flattering type of jeans as they really balance out anyone that is a little pear shaped. Below is an outfit I created with flare jeans in mind.
