Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg & Honorable Sandra Day O’Connor Talk About Their Careers! Women’s Conference 2010

When was the last time you saw a Supreme Court Justice up close? How about a former Supreme Court Justice? I certainly hadn’t and unless you are an attorney who specializes in this particular sector of the law.

What can be said about the Honorable Sandra Day O’Connor and Supreme Court Justice, Ruth Bader Ginsberg that hasn’t already been said? They have broken the glass celing and now there are 3 women serving on the Supreme Court. It is because of the work– sometimes without pay– of these two women (and many like them) who paved the way for women to be 50% of the law student population. There is nothing that can be said about this lunch conversation other than these are merely excerpts. (memory cards don’t hold enough). There was so much more within the context of the conversation and these women are heroes in their field and to women in general.

Listening to these two women speak about the evolution of their careers and what it took to get recognized as professionals within their field was monumental. Knowing that progress has been made but that there are still glass ceilings left to be cracked is still another reason why the Women’s Conference is an empowering and important event for women.

This conversation was followed by Vagina Monologue’s Eve Ensler whose powerful and impassioned speech (in recovery from cancer) drew a holistic circle linking cancer to the women in Africa, to death, poverty, global warming and the environment. It’s inspiring to see these women share themselves who those who don’t know them except through their work and learn that they too are human beings and had to deal with children, illnesses, and tragedy.
