Showing Off the Real Deal: Hanshi Bruce Juchnik Makes Kosho Look Like Ballroom Dancing!

Ok, it took a good friend of mine over a year to get me to understand that Kosho is an entirely different breed of martial arts. You think MMA is bad-ass? Kosho is so sophisticated, elegant and slick that it blows most other martial arts out of the water because they suddenly look extremely clunky. Kosho is a really unique martial arts discipline and is deceptively simple yet devastatingly effective.

Here is Kosho Grand Master Hanshi Bruce Juchnik at the “Gathering 2010” in Sacramento with people from around the world. This event is extremely limited in size so that people can really see Juchnik’s work up close and see the details of his moves. You might have to watch this video a couple of times to get those details. Note that Hanshi Juchnik is often looking at the group and still able to demonstrate the moves without making eye contact with his opponent. Extremely slick, smooth and sweet, these moves pack a wallop that you might not realize till you see it in action on a live person in front of you (I have!!) or have it done to you (and then you really know).

Want to see the perspective from the other side? Here you go

Watch this first guy for the first 2-3 minutes. Watch what happens to him when he makes a serious attack on Bruce. I have met Bruce Juchnik and he has demonstrated a soft-handed strike for me — very slowly and carefully– that audibly popped someone’s vertabre into alignment. He showed me how to do this move because it is self-defensive but also taught me about body dynamics which was pretty darn coo. l I have seen him demonstrate on a good friend of mine and that guy got seriously thumped. Juchnik is funny, thorough, amusing and definitely will make sure you learn something providing you are open-minded to the training. This isn’t your usual martial arts– take anything you already know about martial arts, just toss it out the window and start looking at the body dynamics of what you do every day.

The nice thing about Kosho is that size isn’t the determining factor. Women can be equally adept as men and for a woman, you can use your femininity to your advantage and make a couple moves when someone moves toward you and watch them slide right past you and go down.. with you barely touching them. Nice!! Fun!! Interesting and a great bunch of people to work with.
