USAF SSgt Alicia Watkins Talks About the Needs of Returning Soldiers! Womens Conference 2010

It’s Veteran’s Day today and this is the perfect day for this post. This is the last post regarding the Women’s Conference 2010. A blissful and fun journey, there was a lot to learn, see, hear, and feel touched by– both in topics and people. I went by the VIP Armani tent (thank you to Armani Beauty for making yourselves available to me) and was talking to Creative Director Tim Quinn when he said he had to introduce me to someone. That someone was USAF Staff Sergeant Alicia Watkins- and he said she has a really interesting story. SSgt Watkins handed me some information about her story and I read merely the headline and I knew I had to give voice to her story. So within minutes (literally less than 5), we were taping this video.

SSgt Alicia Watkins did 2 tours of duty in the war zone: Iraq and Afghanistan. Her video tells it all but what’s more important is that she had to endure so much to get back on her feet upon returning from her tours of duty. This is a common situation for the military and it’s worse for those who are National Guard and are deployed. No matter your feeling about the military and the US participation in these overseas interventions, those who serve deserve our respect for putting their lives on the line for others that aren’t even their countrymen, often hostile and for this country as well. It’s important to be aware that when you serve, you don’t get to “opt out” because of political persuasion. When you serve, you go where you are told; do what you must do and survive to the best of your ability.

At the commemoration of the 9/11 event, SSgt Alicia Watkins.

Thank you to SSgt Alicia Watkins for her time and her amazing story. I don’t often get to interview heroes and she is one for 1) serving her country in the military and 2) stepping up to the plate to make these problems that veterans face known.

I hope you will show your support for the miltary who serve our country (*regardless of how you feel about the wars going on) and tell your local, state and national representatives that the government has to make more treatment and assistance available for all who are deployed!

  1. This young lady has been all over, on Oprah, local news stories across the country, and the like. if she is so homeless, so brook, then how can she post pictures of her TODAY, February 18, 2011 at the All-star Weekend in Los Angeles? And no i am not a white person saying this, but a concerned black person. She has posted facebook pictures with her and other NBA stars. Those events are paid events. Where she get the money from to fly to LA, to attend the All-star Weekend events. I know her family and have spoken to her mother. She is duping you America, and LA Story. Why hasn’t the military come to her aid, as this is a political nightmare? Because there is more to the story Alicia is not telling. Alot more. Like the aid she receives from the military. Nough said.

  2. hi
I spoke at length with Alicia Watkins.
    1) she had injuries and when she came out of the hospital, the military hadn’t started paying her yet.. hence the “broke & homeless” issue.
    2) She got some help and she fought to get her benefits (which this is COMMON situation for people in the military).
    3) Her story reached Oprah and she was featured after she had gotten herself back together- and she was able to share it.
    4) a lot of these events are NOT paid in the way of getting a pay check. They may cover expenses but that doesn’t pay the phone bill.
    5) The military has provided her assistance. She’s not claiming that it is still going on.. and it’s clear from the video that’s not what she is saying.
She is saying also that it’s not just her plight but those of others in the military as well and I have verified that situation.

  3. @concerned us citizen-(or wolf in sheep’s clothing as I see). Let me address you.
    1. The Oprah Show was taped Sept 15,2010-Aired on Oct 15-Re-aired onDec 24, 2010. Before the show even hit the airways, God had delivered me from my homelessness, dear.
    2. IT”S FEBRUARY 18, 2011 !!!!!!!!! And you talk about FB pictures??LMBO!!! I didn’t fly to LA, I live there genius and oh and those high price ALL STAR events etc etc. NO CHARGE!!!! I know this is not something you can relate to because your so evil but when God walks with you, he’ll cause all sorts of people to bless you. Since your on my FB page, scroll over to the Women’s Conference photos (the day I met Stevie/interview) and you will see pics with Gayle King/The Kennedy’s, Suze Orman,Michelle Obama etc during Oprah’s Minera Award Night. Guess what….DIDN’T PAY THEN EITHER!!!. Oh and recently (since I just saw this moronic post today) there are pics of me attending Warrior Events all over the US, and those private planes and hotels etc I’m in….DONATED FROM THE PILOTS THEMSELVES!!!!!!! So take that garbage to St. Elsewhere.
3.You know my family and have spoken to my mother???LOL! YEAH OK! Since you, my funny phantom, have the smoking gun, reveal this duping that you think I’m doing to America. PLEASE I BEG YOU!!! You call Oprah, the Air Force, The VA-no better yet President Obama and tell him how this SSGT has tricked the entire US MILITARY SYSTEM into a lie that I was homeless that, as u state, was a political nightmare. YOU WILL GET LAUGHED OFF THE PLANET.
    4. Small minded people like you is why I’m working hard to write my book.People like you are the reason why books like mine need to be heard to expand your narrow thought process. I WAS HOMELESS. THAT IS FACT. Just because you don’t believe it makes no less TRUE! Just like Atheists don’t stop God from being real! I didn’t look like it because of my MacGyver intelligence and some skillful hands, the same intelligence that protected you in wars so you can hide behind a bogus screen name and write fairytales. GOD JUST BLESSES ME! I know you can’t stand it but face the facts. I’m done.LOL!

@Stevie Wilson- thank you for sticking up for me but let me handle these naysayers girlfriend!! Jack Nickelson was right. They can’t handle the Truth!

IN THE END–Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. JOHN 8:32

  4. Sir,

I just saw Alicia Watkins on CNN after the news of the death of Osama bin Laden. If you are in touch with Alicia Watkins, please let her know that she touched my heart. She was so strong, so honest and so heartfelt on the tv this evening. Alicia, you seem to be a tremendous soldier, woman and human being. Thank you.

  5. concerned us citizen, There is an old saying that states “if you have nothing good to say, say nothing”. To knit pick her photos or whether she had money to go to certain events is an indication that you need to get a life. Your criticism of this Alicia is unwarranted and mean spirited. Remember, what you say and do to others will be done to you.

  6. We love your strength and courage SSgt Alicia Watkins.. You know I am right behind you..

  7. I would really love to speak with you alicia. I watched U for the first time this morning on Oprah in my office here in nigeria. I was waiting on a file and just flipped through the channels and there you were. A lot of MEN are afraid of strong women like you and so even if they can point U in the right direction, they’re just too chicken.
I would really like to have a one on one chat over the phone if possible with you.
