New Years Day: Disneyland Gets Pirate-Crazy! Photo Essay Part 2

If you thought I had a lot of photos yesterday, there’s a lot more today from New Years Day trip through Disneyland. We got there so early that we were able to see a lot – and could have eaten at the Blue Bayou for a brunch that would have been well worth the $$$ and with great table service.. but alas.. we had already eaten around the corner at the Riverbelle Terrace– where they were serving up mouse shaped pancakes eyes, nose and mouth filled in with chocolate chips, cherries and raisins. (lots of sugar rush out of that one!) Have to say that compared to some of the food in the park, the pancakes are pretty good- just don’t give me a mouse on my plate.

After finishing off New Orleans Square, we bypassed, Jack Skeleton and the Nightmare Before Xmas characters and headed to Pirate’s Island (formerly known as Tom Sawyer’s Island). Mas changes there (meaning many changes) some good, some hmmm ok.

From the dock to Pirate’s Island

Raft-crossing trying to beat the Columbia to the other side.

Suspension Bridge isn’t nearly so wobbly as before, but the Pontoon Bridge didn’t skip a beat– just exactly the same (yay!) Previously I would NEVER have been able to stand on that suspension bridge without holding on because it really swayed. Note that I still have the tote bag on my wrist and not my shoulder!

Crossing the pontoon bridge, we stopped in the middle so I could nail this photo. The cell phone camera just didn’t do the job so I dug out the point and shoot to get this one right.

Scoping out the “wild life” of moose and deer!

Real wild life at Disneyland: the “killer ducks” are in a feeding frenzy. There is a reason we call them “killer ducks”

More “killer ducks”

Canoes around Pirate’s Island. Got some shout-outs from people paddling in the canoe courtesy of the canoe leader/paddler (aka Disney Team Member).

Extra Canoes found in “storage” and so I decided to commemorate these mementos of the time that I found them.

More detail of the Indian Canoes.

It’s a Small World at Christmas Time

The Small World Sign (I am nothing but fixated on Christmas at Disneyland– and the decor comes down in a few days)

The train going through Small World

We walked down through Toon Town, then back past the teacups (while stopping for a spin), checking out the Mad Hatter’s shop and then walking back down Main Street which was starting to fill up with people staking out prime curb territory for the parade.
Walking through shops and seeing lots of things to buy -but I don’t buy New Years merch– we left the park. Walking through Downtown Disney, I made a pitstop at Sephora (what kind of fashionista would I be if I didn’t at least LOOK? ) We hoppped the tram and went back to the car. At about 3 PM, people were putting coats back on.

Arriving home just in time to catch an amazing sunset–for an amazing New Years Day.

This is a series of photos in sequence of the sunset

Surprisingly, it got more colorful at the very last second.. after I had put the camera away.

Happy New Year!! May all your days be as glorious and colorful as this sunset.
