What Happens After You Find Your Prince? Dina Goldstein Gives You a Visual Scoop
We all pretty much grew up with the Disney image of a handsome prince or some version of him, coming along and sweeping us off our feet or marrying us and we would live happily every after in a castle.
Ever wonder what happens after that “dream” comes true? Disney doesn’t deal in the reality of those things unfortunately and we think happily ever after is HAPPILY ever after. Guess what!! WRONG!! Life enters and reality comes round.
Dina Goldstein picked up that thread and turned it into a series of photos that really rock– both my world and the Disney fantasy and put a real tweak and twist to the situation of marriage, relationships, and the truth behind the myth that is Disney. The collection of photos is called The Fallen Princesses and you can see them all here http://www.fallenprincesses.com/Don’t get me wrong. I love Disney. I had all things Disney when I grew up and my kid did as well. Hopefully we all realize that those Disney things and themes aren’t really true or that the truth behind the presentation is something quite different than the presentation.
Fallen Princesses by Dina Goldstein
Here are a few of the photos Dina Goldstein has done. You need to see the rest. They are truly amazing and she has a wicked sense of humor and reality to put these things together so accurately.
Snow White– not so happily ever after
Rapunzel with cancer and a wig
Ariel, the Little Mermaid, in a giant fishbowl.
Belle, Beauty and the Beast (and who’s trying to keep up appearances)
Jasmine, no longer a princess on a magic carpet but engaged in an entirely different role. (one of the most telling and poignant imho)
Pocahontas in her own home-made forest– that’s not quite what her life should have been like. John Smith, what did you do to this poor woman?
Thank you to Dina Goldstein for this insightful series. There is so many more photos and her work is astonishingly brilliant in this collection as well as others.
Girls, ladies, women- Disney does not make the fairy tale come true. You do!
