Vacation Are Made for Relaxing– and SHOPPING!!! Bargain Shopping!

There has been no trip back east for me — ever — that didn’t involve some shopping (*and some absolutely required shoes as my friend Anita would tell you after I walked NYC in stilettos. dumb dumb dumb).
While in upstate NY, it’s a little different but there are places you can go to wear nice shoes and other places where you wear sandals or athletic shoes. But in the Finger Lakes region, they do have some GREAT stores. I happened (just like last year- but a few weeks later than last year) to show up for their annual sidewalk sale. The “300” store which is located at 300 block corner of the main drag is the hot spot for fashionistas seeking au courrant bargains.

They had scads of flats, sandals and boots (boots started at 100 and went to 150 for seriously GREAT boots.) I was looking at some cute low-heeled sandals but nothing was in my size. However D found a pair that she thought spoke my name

Poetic Licence (will get you the name on this shoe). I took a look at this shoe and was sort of “ehhh.. not me!” but D encouraged me– despite me wearing shorts and a striped tee.

This was one amazing shoe. Suddenly my legs were miles long and I looked amazing wearing these white shorts. This is a brown-beige-taupe color shoe. Nude for lack of a better term. WOW! Oh yes… the price: $40!!

From there we headed to the great resale shop. I did not plan on buying anything there because their sizes run big– or really teeny– but she has brands to cry over.
Here’s what I found:
Dolce & Gabbana brown/ivory/caramel tweedy suit with a silk lining and a pencil skirt.

It fits almost perfectly. The hem needs to go up and get a kick-pleat!

That’s the label for you. It’s wool, silk and something else. But it’s vintage!! (*and my size)

Here’s the interior so you can see the racy animal-print silk lining:

Tres chic– and it fits perfectly. Score!!! Price: $30!! (both pieces together!!!)

Then one day we went to Marshalls when the wind was kicking up and there was light rain going on. We stopped in Ulta and did a tiny bit of beauty shopping. I bought a couple of nail polish bases and emery boards. Looked at Stila but thought I have a LOT of eyeshadows!!

Instead we hit Marshalls: where I found these three cutie-pie things!!

A Caribbean blue (read almost green) tunic with embroidery and paillettes and slit sides. Price: $17!!!

My next favorite piece– a great summer dress to dress up or down.

Spaghetti straps in olive green print with a drop waist and embossed on disks that were matte finished. Doesn’t look like anything on the hanger– but on– it’s really cute. Price: $17!!

(Am I on a roll?)
Last score at Marshalls (I was drooling over boots but I have a lot of boots that I don’t wear. I don’t NEED more knee high boots. Ok. Maybe I do want more boots but I have several pairs). I found these cool little Nine West metallic embellished sandals

These are great with the dresses. Price: $40!!

Also I managed to score a great 100% silk dress at the Urban Outfitters in Ithaca (while it was hailing). Yes I paid full price but this is one great dress. It’s perfect for dinner out, for cocktail parties and maybe an interview or two.

Here’s the close-up detail

Price: $80 for a 100% silk dres

While we were in Ithaca, we stopped and shopped The Commons. The first place to hit: Trader K’s used and vintage clothing. I pulled out 3 pairs of jeans for less than 20 bucks. (Do I need more jeans? No…… but I wanted them). A pair of Seven’s with a flare that broke beneath my knee so that I would have needed seriously bad-ass platforms to pull those off. Nope!!
I managed to find 2 pairs of Guess jeans: one was a size 23– uhh no! That is NOT my size (or at least not after this trip). Guess runs small and these were teeny. I did find a pair of size 25 that were skinny. Loved them — BUT– they had a rip at the seam of the waistband and the belt loop and the jeans. Again, nope!!
So no luck with the jeans. I scouted around and found D & L (a friend who drove us to Ithaca in her new car!!. SO pretty!!). Anyway, D found this cute little tank top from JCrew. I looked at it closely.

This was from a collection that goes back a couple of seasons when Jenna Lyons was doing desconstructed embellished pieces.

It looked a little “worn” and a bit tired but it was supposed to look like that. I remember the collection and I remember the price tag too.

Here’s the tag on it: and it sealed the deal:

The key words: 100% cashmere. Price: $12.50!!! Score!!!

I didn’t care if I bought another thing the entire trip. I started shipping some shoes and clothing home since I brought the wrong clothes again. No one was wearing jeans too much. I was just thrilled that this was such a bargain heaven and we skipped the outlet mall too!
