Maybe you have been lucky enough to see the Broadway musical Memphis, maybe not. But as Memphis toured the US in the first national tour for the musical, Bryan Fenkart played Huey with his amazing voice and great performances. With serious singing chops to make it singing around the country in an award-winning musical, you also have the opportunity to see and hear him in another way– as a singer/songwriter, musician and actor (Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Red Hook, You Tell Me), his album Simple & Grey was released early this year and is available everywhere.
The Making of Simple and Grey
Fenkart has an amazing voice and the ability make it bend to his music sensibilities within each song. The spin that Fenkart brings to this array of song on his sophomore CD is really intoxicating.
It captures your attention and suddenly you are immersed in the world of Bryan Fenkart.. and that of his music. I haven’t had enough time to dive completely into the CD and immerse myself entirely in his music to pick up all the nuances but I can tell you that it will be in my car a long time. This is a singer/songwriter with serious depths in writing music and in performing that music. It’s kind of like your own private musical– he takes you someplace else.
Light Years Away
Lucky for me, I was able to snag 20 minutes on the phone talking with Bryan Fenkart on Thursday (yes.. this past Thursday!) and I have worked my way to edit this and get it live. He’s astonishingly gifted and I wish I had more time but he also had 3 interviews in the AM and he has to save his voice for performances.

Thankyou to Bryan Fenkart for the time he gave me today– Memphis is definitely worth seeing for those of you who are here in LA or check it out online for the city nearest you that’s on the tour!
