Watch Your Waistline Without Denying Yourself Holiday Goodies: Sass Ashe Guest Post!

The holiday season is often a death knell for a healthy diet. There are so many good things to eat and everyone making and sharing all kinds of desserts and goodies, of course you have to indulge. But did you know that you can keep your trim, slim shape while enjoying those goodies? The key is to be active, indulge in moderation and be aware that you can’t eat this way year round.

Now, I know that there are people who say you can make recipes that are lower in fat, or that are healthier, but honestly for me the holidays is about enjoying the good things in life. I want sugary, rich desserts and sumptuous meals. Being from the south, to me good means fried in most cases! I could probably give Paula Deen a run for her money with my love of butter!

I take the holiday season as my cue to eat whatever I want and make as many unhealthy items as I can think of. Anything healthy has slipped in there by accident! My main secret is drinking lots and lots of water. Water fills me up so that while I do get some of all the goodies I can’t over-indulge. What could be 6 cookies scarfed down in 10 minutes is reduced to 2, and I don’t feel deprived.

But while I’m doing all that eating and enjoying I’m also making sure that I am more active each day to burn off those calories. You don’t have to take time out of your busy holiday schedule to hit the gym, just add extra steps to your day to day life. Park farther away, take the stairs, turn on some music and dance while you wash dishes or vacuum.

The goal is to move every part of your body to keep your heart rate up and your metabolism burning calories!  I have an Ab Lounge that I use while watching television, so I’m exercising while I’m relaxing.  The main thing to remember is if you are eating more, or eating less healthy foods you’ll have to make up for it in other ways until the holidays are over.

Another thing to remember is that a few extra pounds is not the end of the world. Once you get back on track and start eating healthier after the holidays they’ll melt away in no time. If a little extra pudge has you feeling self conscious and as if you’ve fallen off the wagon be sure to add some hot workout clothes to your Christmas list so you’ll be inspired to work it off after the holidays.

Drink plenty of water and be active and you should be able to enjoy the holiday goodies without ballooning up to another size.

Thanks to Sass Ashe for her tips!! There will be more from me as well — because I have already had my dive into the chocolate bin!! But keep moving is a key suggestion along with drinking LOTS of water! (While I encourage you during my 12 Drinks of Christmas series, you should drink lots of water too!)
