“American Crew’s 2013 “Face Off,” is an international competition between some of the best salons in the country — which Crew calls “the ultimate men’s hairstyling competition.”

Patrick Chai, a former engineer turned stylist, was announced the winner on November 4th during American Crew’s ew’s “Opening Night,” an event that Crew says is “the year’s biggest celebration of men’s hairstyling”— at least in the US.

Here’s what Chai told the judges at Crew about the photos below:

“We get a lot of conservative young professionals at our shop who settle into the routine of getting the same conservative haircut. I was inspired by their conformity to create something that was fitting for young professionals but with a little bit of an edge. I’m also drawn toward modern style and architecture, so I feel that the added texture in this cut adds play while keeping things current.”

Chai won $3,000 cash, a one-year stylist contract with the Wilhelmina Artists “W Artist” division and a chance to style the models at Crew’s runway show for their “Opening Night” celebration. He will also compete for the world title as the U.S. representative against the Face Off winners from seven other countries—Australia, Canada, Ireland, Mexico, Peru, Spain and the United Kingdom at the end of January here in Los Angeles.

Patrick Chai, a local stylist from Floyd’s Barbershop on Santa Monica Blvd on the Westside of LA, is an expert at styling the urban male professional, giving guys trendy cuts that they can wear bot to work as well as out on the town.

  1. Patrick Chai is awesome! Floyds is AMAZING.. I have another post just on them. They even do women’s hair! It’s fun, fast, and not serious– except that you be happy with your hair.
