The One Eyed Gypsy sounds like a really unique venue and is the latest bar from nightlife entrepreneur, Dana Hollister. Located in the Artist District building that can trace its roots back to the 1880s, the concept is the idea of a vintage traveling carnival.Talk about really pushing that envelope, Hollister has created an ambiance that is truly an excursion into the looking glass.
A decadently curtained stage sets the tone for offbeat performances and live music. There are vintage carnival machines to entertain drinkers, and free Skee Ball keep guests busy into the late hours.An incredible menu of carnival-themed bar food from exceptional pizza to deep-fried Oreos. Cocktails are crafted using house-made syrups and fresh fruit, and there’s an ever changing menu of craft beers, many of them local in origin.
Here’s an array of the most interesting cocktails:
The Bourbon Street Fix ($12) replaces the ‘Bourbon St.’ cocktail that was on a previous menu, heaping that drink onto a bed of shaved ice, like a boozy, tangy strawberry sno-cone.
Ingredients: Maker’s Mark, Strawberries, Simple Syrup, Fresh Lemon, Shaved Ice
Gypsy’s Nectar ($13) is a seductive blend of Haute Vodka, Fresh Guava, Fresh Honey Tangerine, Lime, and Tangerine Oils.
The Cardoon ($14) is a Manhattan variant, with Wild Turkey Rye, Cardamaro, Fresh Basil, and Pimento Swedish Herb Bitters.
The Rye Bruja ($13) is a subtle bite of Bulleit Rye, Fresh Pineapple, Ginger, Egg Whites, Lime and Club Soda.
The Banshee ($13) is a Shrieking Mule, with Sailor Jerry, Lemon Hart 151, Fresh ginger and Lime, topped with Club Soda and Ginger Candy. (Not pictured)
