Chez Soi Brings “Home” Feel to Great Food, Cocktails, Space & Even Kid-Friendly Brunches

Manhattan Beach’s Chez Soi – a Modern Café, located at Metlox Plaza, is the brainchild of Los Angeles restaurateur Thierry Perez (Fraiche and Riva), an award-winning maitre d’ and sommelier; L.A. celebrity chef Mark Gold (chef-owner of Eva and chef for other notable restaurants that include Café Pinot, Café Rouge and Water Grill), and actor Ty Burrell, of ABC’s Modern Family.
The partners chose the restaurant and lounge’s name “Chez Soi” (French for “at home”), reflecting their intent: to make guests feel at home, whenever they come in… whether for a light or robust lunch or dinner, happy hour drinks and snacks, or leisurely weekend brunch. Exuding simple elegance and comfortable sans white-tablecloth-dining indoors and al fresco on its patios overlooking Metlox Plaza,

Chez Soi specializes in simple and refined cooking, using ingredients sourced from all over the world and southern California farmers’ market-fresh produce, hand-selected by chef-partner Mark Gold. Partner Thierry Perez has created an intriguing wine list of domestic, French, Italian and Spanish selections to complement the menu.

Thyme for Peaches

Shane-with-Thyme-for-Peache

Thyme for Peaches_1

Thyme for Peaches is made using a ripe peach half, skin on, muddled in a shaker glass
with a sprig of fresh thyme, ¾ oz. fresh lemon juice, and ¼ oz of simple syrup.
Add 2 oz. Famous Grouse blended scotch,
½ oz. St. Germain elderflower liqueur
and ice cubes before shaking “like a Polaroid picture.”
Strain into a chilled coupe or champagne saucer glass.
As Shane suggests, “garnish the cocktail with another thyme sprig for a nice herbaceous nose, and enjoy!”

Summer In Peru
For Summer In Peru, muddle 6 lime wedges, 4 cucumber slices and ¾ oz. simple syrup in a shaker.
Add 2 oz. Macchu pisco and ice cubes,
shake in the shaker for a few seconds.
Pour into a double old- fashioned glass, rimmed with salt.
Garnish with lime and cucumber slices, and serve.

Grapefruit Syndrome
To prepare Grapefruit Syndrome, which uses a bit of the Italian aperitif Aperol,
pour 3/4 oz lime juice,
1/2 oz. grapefruit juice,
3/4 oz. simple syrup,
1/4 oz. Aperol,
1 1/2 oz. Titos vodka in a shaker with ice. Shake.
Pour into a Tom Collins glass, top with club soda, more ice, if needed, and a grapefruit wedge for garnish.

Happy Hour at Chez Soi runs daily from 4-7 p.m., with $4 specials on selected hand-crafted cocktails, craft beers and wines by the glass as well as featured $6 “snacks.” Dinner is served nightly: Monday-Thursday from 5-10 p.m.; Friday-Saturday from 5-10:30 p.m.; and Sunday from 5-9 p.m. Beginning July 11, Thursday -Friday nights will feature live DJ-spun tunes in the Lounge from 10 p.m.-close.
Additionally, lunch is offered Thursday-Friday from noon-2:30 p.m. Weekend Brunch is served from 10:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Adults may select from an appealing brunch menu that includes fresh-baked croissants, decadent French toast, as well as a wide selection of fresh organic egg dishes, such as omelets, scrambles, Benedict — or a pain de mie egg sandwich with heirloom tomato, buttered onion, cheddar and bacon. Also offered is Alaskan salmon or prime beef with fried eggs, and sides of roasted fingerling potatoes, pomme frites, and more. Guests ages 21 and over may also enjoy bottomless mimosas with the purchase of a brunch entrée for an additional $16 per person.
According to Chez Soi owner Thierry Perez, “Weekends are a special family time and now that we are at the height of summer, with families enjoying ‘together’ time and hosting out-of-town guests, we wanted to offer a way for everyone to relax, enjoy and feel ‘at home’ without having to cook for everyone; let us do it instead!”

  1. I happen to have peach, thyme, and elderflower liqueur ..this will be excellent. The restaurant looks good too.

  2. Thanks for sharing. I am in or near MB every week. I have never heard of the Metlox Plaza. It’s right down the street from the MB Mall. Chez Soi seems like a delightful breakfast shop for those who enjoy French cuisine.

This past weekend I went to Susan Feniger’s Street (@eatatstreet) on Highland and Melrose for a fantastic $25 all-you-can-eat brunch (beverages extra) that was well suited for vegetarians, vegans and omnivores. Their hours may seem as eclectic as their menu so make sure it’s open before taking the drive it you decide to check it out sometime.
