FRAGments #11: Mik Moi Shows Off 4 Fragrances from His Debut Collection! FRAGments Finale! #Podcast!

FRAGments is/was an an indie, artisanal and underground event that pulled together spectacular brands from the West Coast and beyond! This event happened on 6/22 in the Highland Park in the San Fernando Valley in a cool little gallery of more than just wall art,  but 3-D art displays as well. As one of the hottest days that spring, it was an intoxicating event.

What’s next in FRAGmnents Spring/Summer 2013? LOTS more to learn about from various fragrance lines. It’s time for another podcast of 2 people from the FRAGment’s event: this time we have Yosh Han representing Yosh Olfactory Sense and Persephenie from Persephenie Studio This was an amazing event and this is one way for you to partake in the event without spending a ton of money!

Mik Moi is the last of the fragrance people to be featured. He is the last of the people that I didn’t connect with at the event too so there is a solo, longer podcast

Mik has called three continents home; Europe…from the global crossroads of London to the majestic French Alps; Asia…from the sanuk of Bangkok to the awe inspiring retail of Hong Kong he has lived and loved with some of the most inspiring and tantalizing backdrops on the planet. His humble beginnings as a ‘country mouse’ in upstate New York exposed him to the richness of nature. Roaming his days in the woods and fields of the family home, to the microcosm of his mother’s ‘plant room’ he learned first hand the balance, care and feeding requirements of the natural world. A global career in diversity and inclusion brought him further afield and steeped him in customs, subcultures and languages. Self-discovery, curiosity and championing individual expression are themes in his unique combinations. His work challenges stereotypes, orientations and perspectives; “Don’t ever be afraid to be different, to choose your own path and to be true to your self.” Mik has studied natural perfumery with Mandy Aftel and the art of Aromascapes with Yosh Han; he is self taught in the use of aroma molecules.

Listen to Mik Moi’s discussion about his fragrances — especially the inspirations for these scents!

The gentleman that I had talked to at the event in a very spontaneous conversation (I called him Robert in the podcast), that person was the amazing John Steele, fragrance archeologist and essential oils expert.

Of bowlers and British Isles, the green carnation pays homage to the discreet boutonnière worn by Oscar Wilde to recognize kindred spirits of “wit and wisdom.” Absinthe envelops a classic carnation soliflore accord; lavender and aged patchouli add a bespoke Savile Row flair.

NOTES: Absinthe, classic carnation soliflore accord; lavender, aged patchouli

Itoh

Seeing the wood from the trees, and trees from the wood… Itoh pays tribute to self discovery and inner beauty. White cedar reveals a heart of pink lotus and peony tree blossoms. The strength of pemou wood marries with floral fragility; tobacco leaf evokes a meandering journey, with precious oud sagely guarding the elusive path.

NOTES:pemou wood, florals, tobacco leaf , oud

AO

Inspired by bays lining the Andaman Sea; a balmy breeze carries the seductive scent of tuberose mixed with faraway traces of beach bonfires, signaling an invitation to join in the laughter. Young coconut juice infused with Thai ginger and cool blue plai are immersed in a base of warm amyris and richly appointed cade.

NOTES:Young coconut juice, Thai ginger, coo blue plai, warm amyris, cade

Vesper

A Lillet aperitif accord stimulates the appetite of a first encounter; a heart of falling fig leaves and black baccara rose leads to smooth suede unfolding. The ritual base of myrrh and frankincense prompts reflection before amber windows and whets the appetite for more.

NOTES:Lillet aperitif accord, fig leaves, black baccara rose, suede, myrrh, frankincense, amber

Thrilled with the results from the Annual Juried International Awards,
