Cocktails Worth an Oscar– or an Oscar Mixing with Fabulous Tastes Courtesy of Robert Lambert!

It’s going to be Independent Spirit Awards and Oscar Sunday before you know it. So let’s get the party started a bit early here.
At least to give you some cocktails in case you took my suggestion on Sunday to WATCH some movies. If not, you can put together an amazing array of cocktails for a party. Give each guest a specific movie and give them a cocktail tied to that movie (like the ones I have listed below) and have them bring the ingredients. This doesn’t require a ton of spirits given the number of movies, so most cocktails only have to be a total of a couple of ounces. We don’t want you driving home impaired!!

These cocktails are courtesy of Robert Lambert Brand Artisanal Foods. He created all the cocktail recipes and all the details are on his site– along with all the special ingredients you need to buy!

Captain Phillips is about a ship being boarded and the captain being taken hostage by Somalian pirates. The c country of Somalia and thus it’s coast is close to the equator so it’s very tropical. Robert Lambert Brand’s Mai-Malade is a unique spin on a Mai Tai made differently and with a unique kick to the recipe.

THE MAI-MALADE: What happens when the most ambitious Mai Tai you’ve ever had meets sumptuous Marmalade? …A journey to unchartered flavor.

Nebraska is a film directed by Alexander Payne and done entirely in black and white to give it a stark, stripped down feeling to reveal the wild dreams of Bruce Dern’s character and the hopeless efforts of his son to get him to get wise that he hasn’t won the million dollars.

Robert Lambert’s Spiced Gum Drop is a nod to the old-fashioned candy and the black and white film era in which this old man lives– it’s gum drop world (think Shirley Temple here) and that the reality is the spice and problems that many people have when they find that there’s a lot more to this cocktail than just sugary sweet candy.

American Hustle -set in the 70’s- is about a con artist and his girlfriend who get tagged by the FBI and are trying to get a bigger fish on the line, a local politico. That the con artist is married and has a kid. His wife has a “mood disorder” and does everything she can to hang onto her man. Eventually the FBI agent wrangles a bigger fish to snag amongst all this in an era of Studio 54’s drugged haze, alcohol and luxury (real and faux)

Robert Lambert Hot Ginger Caramel Apple Martini
An exciting RL variation on a popular favorite, the martini is a perfect cocktail for American Hustle. With sweetness and ginger’s bite along with some spirits, it’s sure to evoke the “hustle” in anyone!

Granny Smith Apple Slice,
Chilled Martini Glass,
Martini Shaker

Drizzle RL’s Hot Ginger Caramel Sauce across the inside of a chilled martini glass & return to freezer.

Gravity: is an film featuring only 3 characters — and only 2 of them survive the first 10 minutes of the film. What eventually becomes a journey of survival in bleak and black coldness of space for Dr. Stone played by Sandra Bullock and for George Clooney playing the head astronaut is a tough journey.

Sandra Bullock is the main actor in this film and her ability to pull off this role and the movie, in my eyes makes her almost heroic. In fact, the movie shows off her characters’ developing strength and courage to get back to earth. So I have pulled the License to Chill cocktail from Lambert for this very special film

Robert Lambert License To Chill
This RL original Champagne Cocktail is one of a kind. The name is a nod to the ever-present champagne in James Bond movies.

cherries

Ingredients:

Chilled Champagne –
Laurent-Perrier is a great French champagne.
If you want an American sparkling wine, try Biltmore’s non-vintage Blanc de Blanc, Russian River Valley or Mumm Napa non-vintage Blanc de Blancs, Napa Valley
Champagne Flute,
Robert Lambert’s award-winning Dark Cherries in Merlot Syrup.

DIRECTIONS:
Swirl One Teaspoon of “Merlot Syrup” from a jar of RL’s Dark Cherries in Merlot Syrup around the inside of a chilled champagne flute.

Pour your favorite chilled champagne into the flute and watch the color come to life.

Remove the pit from an RL dark cherry and place it in the flute.

The Wolf of Wall Street:
Based on the book of the same name, this is the bubble that recently brought the mortgage meltdown of 2007/2008. Jordan Belfort’s book is a true story that includes his evolution wealthy stockbroker living high and luxe to his fall involving crime, corruption and the federal government.

There is nothing better in my mind to partner this film with than the Lambert Ginger Li-Mon Rickey!

Robert Lambert GINGER LI-MON RICKEY: A breeze to make and a sheer craving inducing delight.

ginger-limon

Ingredients:

Limes (fresh limes are better and if you can get a mix of key limes and regular limes, that would make a great taste. Volcano Lime Burst is a natural lime juice and while you might need to buy a couple of containers, you won’t be sorry!)
Robert Lambert’s Meyer Lemon Syrup,
Robert Lambert’s White Ginger Syrup,
Spirit of the Day: Gin– Get the Bombay Sapphire Gin! (Optional but for this movie absolutely required! What’s a living large movie all about if not spirits? it wouldn’t be the Wolf of Wall Street without it)
Seltzer,
Ice.

DIRECTIONS:
In a pitcher, mix 10 oz. of lime juice (the juice of 6-8 limes),

3 oz. of RL Meyer Lemon Syrup,

3 oz. of RL White Ginger Syrup,

2 oz of Gin (optional) (Bombay Sapphire or Hendricks)

32 oz. of seltzer water.

Pour into ice filled glasses and garnish with lime slices. (Makes 4 12 oz servings).

Frozen: .

This Disney classic animated flick has captured hearts of children and adults and this makes it worthwhile to put it into this mix even if it hadn’t gotten nominated for an Oscar the Best Song category. I don’t know about what the general consensus is but if the votes for FROZEN’s main song doesn’t win you over, then where’s your heart- sitting in the deep freeze?

Robert Lambert’s Raspberry Rose Chocolate Shake

You’ve never had a chocolate shake with an array of flavors like this! Each sumptuous sip delivers a Lambert medley of flavors that will linger in your cravings long after you reach the bottom of the glass.

chocolate rose

Ingredients:

Robert Lambert’s Raspberry Rose Chocolate Sauce,
Vanilla Bean Ice Cream (or Low Fat Frozen Vanilla Yogurt),
Low Fat Milk,
Ice
Spirits are optional since this is also a kid-friendly drink.
However, if you want a spirit think about Godiva’s Dark Chocolate Liqueur for a low-key spirit.
Want something with more bite? You could try a smooth gentle bourbon (Jack Daniels Honey is an awesome choice! OR try Godiva Chocolate Raspberry Vodka! )

DIRECTIONS: In a blender,

Add 4 oz. of Vanilla Bean Ice Cream (or Low Fat Frozen Vanilla Yogurt for calorie counters),

1 ½ oz. of RL Raspberry Rose Chocolate Sauce,

2 oz. of Low Fat Milk, 1-2 ice cubes.

Add the spirit here if you are making this an alcoholic beverage!

Blend at high speed, pour into a shake glass and prepare for the best shake ever!

Now you have all the recipes that Robert Lambert came up with & my pairings with movies and selected spirit suggestions.

  1. I love these recipes. The ginger caramel sauce has serious potential, but they all look good to me…now you are talking Oscars!!!!

  2. My only thought is how to give people some Oscar buzz based on cocktails and finding great recipes like Robert Lambert’s with his fabulous array of products. His cocktails are killer and his products give you a lot of taste and pop for the price-tag!
