The summer is headed into August and hotter days (with and without humidity) are here. While some say it’s the dog days of summer, I believe more is still to come (especially here in So. California!) Now is the time to enjoy this glorious summer weather and the limited time that we seem to have.
So while strong liquor for cocktails might seem to be a bit much to be sipping every night after work or to have a couple of on an occasional evening, there are alternatives for those who wish to have a nice sip (or two or three) in the evening
Here are two wines that can be used to create some lighter cocktails that are eminently sippable and are lighter in texture which is what the summer is all about. We have both a red and white cocktail for you that are light, tasty and have great texture to them for your long summer nights!
Hobnob Chardonnay
Josh Cellars Merlot
HobNob Spritz
· 1/2 cup HobNob Chardonnay
· 1/2 cup lemon-lime soda
· Lemon
· Lime
Directions:
· Fill glass halfway with ice
· Pour Chardonnay over ice and top with lemon-lime soda
· Add a few lemon and lime slices, and garnish with lemon wheel
Berry Red Spritzer
· 1/2 cup Josh Cellars Merlot
· 3/4 cup Club Soda
· Fresh berries
Directions:
· Fill glass about halfway with ice
· Pour Merlot over ice and top with club soda
· Add fresh raspberries and blueberries
Find these great wines are you local BevMo or other large wine purveyor. As always, please drink responsibly.
As you can see, these wine spritzers are easy to make but have a serious flavor profile that will make these spritzers in demand at your home or with your friends. This is a great way to serve the heavier wine varietals to make the incredibly accessible during the long hot summer of 2014!
