If I Seem a Bit Scarce, It’s with Good Reason. I Am MOVING!! OMG So Much Packing!

YES! We sold the house and finally found a house to move to….. all within a five mile radius or so.
It’s cool in a way when you step back and look at the landscape or larger picture of moving.

Boxes collected to pack stuff into

But when you look at the nitty gritty and find out what you ignored or didn’t realize that you collected, then it’s not so much fun to curate down. Curate is the fancy word for sifting through the rubble of books, beauty products, CDS & DVDS along with clothing, kitchen stuff etc.

What do I want to do with it? I need to decide
what to donate to various charities and libraries;
give stuff to friends across the country and locally;
schedule up a garage/estate sale for the extra furniture I managed to collect;
put in storage those key items that don’t fit in this house but we still want to keep.

All of that goes on around us trying to unpack and trying to find space for the stuff that’s left. Plus small decorative changes like remove the window coverings and replace them;
pick out paint colors;
fix little things and
take the time to plan bigger things like one fast bathroom remodel with paint, tile, light fixtures and a tub enclosure.
All that with a kid and a dog too.

MORE boxes. (We bought 40 boxes with lids at STAPLES for $1 each. More than half are used up now. I think we need to get more packing materials.)

The packing is opening up to be a major deal and since we have lived here for 10+ years (time flies when one is having fun.. even when it threatens to flood due to a threatening tropical hurricane that manages to under-deliver! I am very grateful for that! While some local residents were sandbagging their houses, I thought the storm wouldn’t produce much and it didn’t. Just enough of a Los Angeles type of storm to get your car really dirty and mess up the windows a great deal

boxes--&-dolly

While I pack up, you will not see me on Facebook much, though Twitter I can hopefully keep up with it all.
I will not be posting as regularly unless it’s easily and quickly reproduced content! Focus on food, interviews, guest blogs by experts in various fields, cocktails (and I would so want to drink them!) along with hot LA and national events. OH yeah.. and fitness too because I have been working out 6 of 7 days. My friend PlanetSharkFit on twitter will be so glad to hear I am doing interval training and working out 40 minutes a day + a dog walk. I also want to share my favorite things that I have found in the last 5 months. I am so wanting to share those all with you but lack of time requires my brevity.

And if you know me, you would know that can be a tough thing to deliver… unless I set my mind to it. So it’s not completely out of the question for me to knock off a quick review so several products in just one post.
There won’t be the depth but
it would tell you why I like it and why I use it!
If you have questions, please send them via Facebook.com/lastoryblog ; twitter.com/lastory or send a note through the blog and eventually I will get it.

Another goal at the same time that I deal with a massive clean-out of the current house to move into a smaller house is to go into a site remodel on this blog. While I work out those details, please make comments or let me know what you would like to see on this blog. I have lots of ideas– but so do you. Share your ideas with me too!

Now I know that I haven’t been really good at taking more photos of the place since I shot these photos. The number of boxes is SO MUCH MORE than these photos. That looks like a picnic compared to what I have currently. What the place looks like tonight after all the movers.. you got me!
What it looks like after we move in? (Please .. I don’t want to think about it)

What I do want to think about is the that the house is going to get a bit of a face lift inside and outside. Most of the work it needs is outside, but the stuff inside – while cosmetic- will brighten and lighten the interior — and the mood- of the house… and thus make me infinitely happier.

Stick with me because the changes will become posts. I never throw money at something when wise shopping at garage sales, antique stores and a flea market might uncover it for less. However there are some situations where money spent wisely makes the biggest difference.
The same could be said about spending time on knowing what you want the result to be.

So the first order is the first round of paint to be able to accurately see what the house interior looks like. I need to wipe out a black ceiling in my office that is covered in glow in the dark planets and stars. Can you tell it was a child’s room?

These stories and what was done will be posts and then will become an ebook on how to decorate anything for less and how to figure out how to create your personal style.

While I get ready to do all the unpacking, curating, selling off, remodeling “lite” on a house, the blog is in for a face lift and will emerge ready for the next round of what I am going to be up to. This new jazzy site will feature all the things I love to talk about!

If you have a moment to tweet to me, please do. I will reply. It just might take me a few minutes to clear the water and tread my way to tweeting!

  1. This is a massive effort. I do notice the site remodel and think it looks clean and slick. Good luck with the downsizing. You will be glad when it is finished I am sure.
