Crank Up Your July 4 Celebrations with Moonshine based Cocktails and Wine-Based Food! #Recipes

This post is a collection of unusual recipes. Most are around foodie type flavors where wine becomes a delicate dessert with a distinctly light presentation. The other recipes are all based on crafted liqueurs made in West Virginia and based on moonshine. Each brings something unique to the table.

Here’s an interesting recipe for a light amuse bouche perhaps or an appetizer.. or perhaps a light dessert? It’s a gelée which is a gelatin based dish that is very light and flavorful. (Gelatin like jello but definitely NOT jello)

Step up your Rosé game with this wine-infused gelatin with SIMI’s Sonoma County Dry Rosé. This easy to recreate, four-step Rosé Gelée from preserve expert, Kevin West, is an elegant yet classic summertime imbibe that you will enjoy while celebrating America’s Independence. Garnish with a dollop of whipped cream, and top off with a handful of fresh blueberries and you have a low-calorie festive treat for any Fourth Of July fête!

Kevin West’s Rose Gelée infused with SIMI Sonoma County Dry Rosé

gelee

Ingredients
1 tablespoon + ¾ teaspoon unflavored gelatin (two packets)
1 cup water, divided
1 cup sugar
1 bottle SIMI Sonoma Country Dry Rosé

Directions
1) Sprinkle the gelatin over ¼ cup of the water in a small bowl. Set aside for a few minutes to rehydrate.

2) Combine the remaining water and the sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Remove from the heat.

3) Add the gelatin to the sugar syrup and stir to dissolve. Combine with the wine in a medium mixing bowl or a 9-inch square baking pan. Refrigerate for 3 hours, until set.

4) To serve, arrange in glasses or small bowls atop a pile of blueberries and top with whipped cream for a festive rose, white and blue look.

Bloomery SweetShine

Bloomery SweetShine is a leader in the locally sustainable craft distillery trade. The distillery is helping drive the emerging craft beverage category and “culinary cocktail” trend that’s now sweeping the globe. With more than twenty-one international awards and too many cocktail aficionado accolades to count, the company is doing its part to take the restaurant, bar and hospitality industries to tasty new heights.

“When Bloomery Plantation Distillery opened its doors in September of 2011, we were the 424th craft distiller federally licensed in the U.S.—today those numbers have exploded,” adds Losey. “The critical intersection of local sourcing combined with the handcrafting of approachable spirits like liqueurs is resonating in the marketplace. Consumers like a little bit of the unusual and appreciate our whimsical approach, but quality and taste are paramount—this is why we grow our own Italian lemons and Hawaiian ginger as well as grow and harvest our own black walnuts and pumpkins to craft distinctive, memorable and crave-worthy flavors.”

The freshness of Bloomery SweetShine’s ingredients cannot be understated, with all agricultural ingredients grown at the distillery’s own farm, local neighboring farms or other small American farms. Each item in the brand’s portfolio proffers an exciting and unrivaled flavor profile.

  1. Bob likes moonshine more than I. The ginger one has a lot of promise though. Bloomer is a new brand to me, so maybe I should try shine again..

  2. I like moonshine especially when it’s smooth and well-distilled. This is the first time I have seen it presented in a flavored liqueur version.
