Summer Beauty: 5 “Must Have” Products + Tips for Coachella + Trips!

Coachella is a great blend of music, fashion and beauty– mixed with more music, parties, cold nights and sizzling days. Whether you are headed to Coachella this weekend, next weekend or another music fest in California or anywhere across the country, take note of some great beauty products that are worth rounding up for your kit to the event!

Skincare:

Skincare is probably the most critical category to make sure you have some solid products.
1)Cleanser is essential. You should not be sleeping with your makeup on at these kind of events. Your skin will thank you later if you do remove it before sleeping. Look for a travel size of your favorite cleanser. If you want easy, breezy ways to remove all face makeup including eye makeup, try Burts Bee’s Facial Cleansing Towelettes!

These handy towelettes come in a 5 “flavors” to cleanse your face — with your choice of ‘sensitive’ (cotton extract), ‘exfoliating’ (peach and willow bark), white tea, pink grapefruit (oily), and ‘soothing’ (cucumber and sage).

These wipes come in two different sizes: 10 pack (for short term use or your handbag) or 30 pack for daily use. These are very affordable at about $3 and $6, respectively.
Find them at BurtsBees.com, Target stores, Ulta, drugstore.com and lots of other retail stores.

Moisturizer
Moisturizer is essential because the desert is drier. Add in the wind which will dry your skin out beyond belief, it’s just good sense to add in a neutral moisturizer to keep your skin in balance, no matter what skin type you have. So bring along your moisturizer. (Even those samples from cosmetic shopping will do in this kind of situation. They take up little space and you can toss then when you leave.)

My favorite moisturizer is from Belegenza: Timeless Skin Moisturizing Lotion.

TiMEless-Skin-Moisturizing-Lotion1

Belegenza is a hair care line but so much more than that. I swear by all their products and it’s a line that is ALWAYS in my shower. That said, I know about their body/face products and they work. I would highly recommend this product because it’s all natural, no preservatives or junk in it. If there was ever a time — or event– where you needed serious skincare, it’s at Coachella.

Belegenza Timeless Skin Moisturizing Lotion- Available at Belegenza.com $46.
(Yes, I know it’s a chunk of change. However this will last you a long time since a little goes a long way.
I use it too!)

Sunblock:
Sunblock is critical for Coachella. You should be wearing it 24/7 no matter where you are. Just because the sun goes down doesn’t mean UVA/UVB exposure closes up shop… it doesn’t go away. Particularly in desert valleys where there’s little to no cloud cover or shelter from the elements , you need sunblock.
I have 2 recommendations:
Peter Lamas Sheer Zinc Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunblock

This is an amazing product because for most this is all you will need for moisturizer, sunblock and primer.

sheerzinc_1260x1920

The Sheer Zinc Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 utilizes a synergy of ingredients – Zinc Oxide, Photosomes and Grape Stem Cells – to defend skin against sun damage and restore skin’s luminosity. Natural sun-blocker Zinc Oxide creates a transparent layer of protection to guard skin from ultra-violet rays, which can cause damage deep within the skin’s surface. Grape Stem Cells defend skin from UV stress while Photosomes help restore cell activity to reverse sun damage and replenish skin.

This product is $44- a bit of a hefty price but you can use it in your daily life all summer (and think about it year-round). Do your face a favor. Five years from now, you will thank me.

The point is use this and you won’t need to do a lot of layers of goop on your face. Plus you won’t wind up looking like prune at the end of the weekend!

In case you want another sunblock or a different type of sunblock, there is another option behind “door #2”- COLORSCIENCE Sunforgettable. This is one unique product and I know it well. I have been using it for 10+ years.

colorescience

This self-dispensing powder sunscreen makes sun protection application simple throughout the day. Available in matte and shimmer, the highly refined mineral formula offers everyday broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection with a hint of color for all-day touch-ups.

Yes, it’s pricey at $57 but it goes wherever you go. It’s water-resistant and can last up to 8 hours. (YES, that’s right, EIGHT hours!). Dust this baby one twice a day (providing you haven’t wiped it off with the facial towelettes listed above) and you are good to go. A bit of sunblock and dry mineral powder coverage. It’s intelligent beauty.
Colorescience is available at Colorescience.com, Sephora/Sephora.com

Haircare:
Depending on where you are staying, you might need shampoo and conditioner..maybe even a hair dryer along with a wide tooth comb and a hair brush. If you are traveling with 1 or more friends, take ONE dryer, and bring small travel size products for hair. If you are jumping into a swimming pool or have been out and about all day in the hot sun, your hair will thank you.

Iles Formula Discovery Pack

This is one great line. I learned about it last year. Met Wendy Iles and had a chance to experience a salon-level product treatment that I could replicate at home with her products. Skip the thousands of products you might have and buy just this set of 3 products. YUP! No matter your hair color, condition or type, you only need this collection. I know. I have used it. Not only did I buy a set, but I did it before I was sent samples to try. That’s how convinced I was (and still am convinced) by Wendy Iles

This is an image of the three Iles Formula full-size products. The Discovery Pack is a steal of a travel size kit of all 3 products for you to try in packet format. Under $25, it’s such a deal and would give you hair that others will whisper about at Coachella. Yes, it’s that good. Your hair will shine and be soft. There is only one shampoo, one conditioner and one finishing treatment (styling product). So simple to use. Keep the packets in your handbag so that anyone you are bunking with doesn’t steal them. Of course, it will be easy to figure out who that is– because their hair will be glorious too.
BTW- you won’t need to shampoo again till you get home if you are using Iles Formula products. It’s meant to give you salon quality hair for 3-4 days at a time.

Iles Formula products: $33-$44 per full-size product. Discovery Pack: -$24.50
Available at IlesFormula.com and Sephora.com

I will have color cosmetics for the next post;  otherwise, this would be a very long post to load.
The color products will be a short, well-edited list because you have your favorites. I am providing you with multi-purpose products plus tips and tricks.

ENJOY COACHELLA– whether you are there in person or watching the live-stream on your computer!

  1. I like the sun block products. I use the color science brand (thanks to your intro) and like that little brush in my purse for all day touch ups. Zinc is the way to go because it does not wear out..it blocks.

  2. Totally agree Pam! Those two products are high on my list of “must use” sunblocks– both have different application methods but that’s what makes them so effective!
