Today is National Pinot Noir Day: Celebrate with Great Pinot Noir Wines from Drouhin Wineries!

National Pinot Noir Day is an interesting “holiday”. It gives you the opportunity to test drive a lot of different Pinot Noir brands so you can identify a brand you like

Pinot Noir is a lush, fruity red wine. It’s perfect with foods on the grill and dishes that have a fruity or vegetable sort of base. It’s a great wine if you want to have something to drink that’s not as heavy as a Cabernet. It allows you to bridge from rose’ wines and head into more complex flavors – along with more complex meals to pair with Pinot Noir wines.

Celebrate National Pinot Noir Day today, August 18, provides a great opportunity to take a break from rosé mania and crack open some exquisite and complex reds. Try a sampling of Joseph Drouhin Wines, for example. Joseph Drouhin has mastered the Pinot Noir style in Burgundy (which is where it originated) over centuries – and officially 30 years in Oregon!

Translate the French winery and vineyard styling to the US and you wind up in Oregon with some incredible varietals!

The Roserock Drouhin Oregon Pinot Noir, Eola-Amity Hills 2014 (SRP $38) is a lovely fruit forward wine with a long finish. The hints of spice and earth on the palate give this cuvée a rounded palate, with added notes of dark cherries and sweet flowers this wine is everything you could want in a Pinot Noir.

Domaine Drouhin Oregon  is celebrating their 30 year anniversary at their Oregon estate, making  this wine is even more precious to serve to family and friends!

Cote de Beaune: This pinot noir is from France and the vineyard and actual vines where the grapes grow are probably ones that provided some of the starter vines for the Oregon Drohin wineries

About this Wine brand:

–Joseph Drouhin founded the Burgundy estate in 1880.

–His son, Maurice Drouhin succeeded him in 1917. His son – and current patriarch of the family – Robert Drouhin became the third generation to run the business in 1957

–It was Robert who first “discovered” Oregon on a visit in 1961. He recognized that it was Oregon (more so than California) that had the soil, latitude, and climate that could unlock the complexities and potential of Pinot and Chardonnay in the US. In 1987, Robert purchased property, and the newly christened Domaine Drouhin Oregon produced its first vintage in 1988 from purchased grapes. The following year, they built the landmark, four-story gravity flow winery, producing the first-ever vintage on the property in 1989.

“There is a big difference between ‘family-owned’ and ‘family-owned and operated.’ We live in Beaune, we live in Oregon, and we are in the vineyard and at the winery tasting every day. It is our family name on the label so we must be in control of every detail to ensure the wine can bear our name,” added Frédéric Drouhin.

Celebrate National Pinot Day with these great wines! I will have another post today featuring a great meal you can serve tonight or tomorrow featuring Pinot Noir wine!
