Has Winter’s Cold Got You – AND- Your Hair Down? Tips from Celebrity Stylist Sam Divine!

If I had talked to you a week ago, I would have complained about the previous two to three weeks of really cold (for So. California) weather. When in the major metro area of Los Angeles & Orange County, the low is 43 degrees, that’s cold! Add in significantly thick fog to turn your hair frizzy or wet or both- and honestly, life becomes a question about what can I do to not only protect my hair from the weather but the hot tools to get it looking presentable. If you are on the east coast, all I can say is that it’s so cold there that your hair is drying out super-fast every time you step outside- no matter what you do to help moisturize it.

Thankfully, I have a specialist on board to help us both out in regards to those questions. Sam Divine is a celebrity stylist and is also the co-founder of Society Salons.

Sam DiVine’s Winter Hair Protection Tips

The winter months can be rough on your hair. Heading into fall, I always like to remind my clients of a few simple things they can do to keep their hair healthy. Here are a few protection tips to keep your hair in great shape this winter:

Keeping up with regular haircuts: Clients often come to me with a little to a lot of damage. It’s normal and something we work together on to create a perfect regimen specifically for you. Part one of that regimen is keeping up with regular cuts. I know a lot of you hear that and get nervous because you want to grow your hair out but that makes it even more important! Ask your stylist for a dusting. This is a borderline microscopic haircut that only dusts the ends leaving the hair healthy and fresh.

Switch out the hat for a scarf: When you’re out in the world and its windy and cold, use a scarf to wrap around your hair instead of a hat. It will prevent damage from the hat, protect your blowout, and protect you from the elements.

And don’t forget to moisturize!: As the winter approaches it’s more important than ever to double down on your regimen. The cold dries out our hair and our skin very quickly. We tend to be conscious that this happens to our skin and forget that it happens just as quickly to our hair. Moisturizing your hair needs to be non-negotiable.

Here are a couple recommended regimens depending on how often you’d like to moisturize:

Shu Uemura Essence Absolue:
On the daily, you can use a nourishing, absorbent oil like Shu Uemura Essence Absolue. A pump or two (depending on your length and density) will not only heal the hair from the inside out but it will give a protective layer between your hair and the elements.

An Intensive Masque:
On a weekly basis in the winter you want to be doing an intensive masque. You can do this at home or in the salon depending on what your hair needs. If you color your hair or style it regularly, I would recommend an in-salon treatment weekly. Professional lines are more concentrated and pack a bigger punch. At Society, we have nine different treatments we use that are targeted to the individual client’s hair.

**Important Note:

It is essential to remember that not all products are created equal and something that may work great on your girlfriend might not be the best fit for you. Ask your stylist or colorist what they think would best protect and heal your hair and get that treatment in the salon or for yourself to do at home.

About Sam DiVine:

In only three short years Sam DiVine has completely redefined the salon experience and disrupted the traditional business model. Sam Founded Society Salon, a membership-based full-service hair salon with a unique approach to client retention in the heart of West Hollywood. Noticing the industry shift to “single-service based” locations like blow dry bars, Sam sought to create a space that was inclusive of all her clients’ needs that allowed them to not feel guilty about maintaining their hair multiple times a month. Sam knew that by allowing clients to visit on her unlimited package that it would help encourage a greater commitment to feeling good in both mind and body. Like the gym, coffee in the morning or how we answer the phone with loved ones, most great things we do for ourselves our habits and Sam asked, why shouldn’t your hair be treated the same way.

Prior to creating Society Salon, Sam trained alongside Sally Hershberger, one of the most influential and sought-after hairstylists in the world. Making her way from an assistant to leading stylist, Sam built her creative vision and personally observed that you can change someone’s world by first making them feel confident about themselves. While there, she worked on set while also tending to the styling and cutting needs of celebrities, industry executives and other high-end clientele.

As for the memberships, Sam offers five different packages for customers. Please see details below. You can also find more information on Society’s website here: http://www.societysalons.com
