Sizzling VR Movie ” Ready Player One” Is a MUST SEE! Review

I wanted to get into a movie and last weekend was a perfect time for me to check out some of the latest movies. Choosing which one to see was part wistful thinking and compromise. We had already seen Black Panther which blew me away with the storyline and great acting, I wasn’t quite ready to see it again. I seriously thought about A Quiet Place– with Emily Blunt and John Krasinski- but the trailer already had my eyes bugging out – partly for the thrill of it and partly knowing that I would have nightmares about this movie for weeks. So we passed.
I had read a lot of articles on Ready Player One. I had seen enough of the trailer #1 many times in the previews. But I wasn’t sold UNTIL the week of the opening when I read the LA Times review and 6 Second Review’s on Ready Player One and I realized I had to see it.

Synopsis:
From filmmaker Steven Spielberg comes the science fiction action adventure “Ready Player One,” based on Ernest Cline’s bestseller of the same name, which has become a worldwide phenomenon. When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.
Spielberg directed the film from a screenplay by Zak Penn and Ernest Cline.

REVIEW:

I LOVED this film. I went into it with a bit of skepticism but within 15 minutes I was liking it, and 30 minutes in, I was hooked. If you can suspend judgment till the explosion in the stacks, you will find yourself in a really interesting and increasingly taut story. The storyline is complex and features lots of layers in the plot (so pay attention!) The VR aspect looks hokey initially but when you get used to it, the VR blends seamlessly into the thread of the movie.

I saw this movie in 3D and almost never do that. This is one film that I would recommend you spend the $$$ to see it in 3D because the action is better and the VR is seamless and the characters move from IRL to VR without pause and there is no drop in the story or your understanding of what’s going on in the film. I actually found the 3D useful to be able to dig into the characters that were in the VR world. I was seriously caught up in this movie by the 30-minute mark and I was glued to my seat so that I didn’t miss anything in this 2 hour, 20-minute movie! It was a real thriller with very believable characters that bridged both IRL + VR worlds seamlessly. This is no Avatar, it’s incredibly better than that movie (and other movies I have seen in 3D) and had more emotional engagement throughout the film.
While I would love to discuss more about this movie, I would have to reveal spoilers and that’s one thing I won’t do!
