How Are TJ Underhill (13) + His Mom Are Making a Positive Change? Tour De Pier (5/20) Register NOW!!
No matter what age you are, you can make a positive change in the world.
Just ask 13-year-old lacrosse player, TJ Underhill. TJ and his mom Liz will be riding in the 6th Annual Tour de Pier (TdP) stationary cycling fundraiser to be held at the Manhattan Beach Pier on May 20th in honor of a dear friend, Kory Hunter who died from Glioblastoma in 2013. Since then, the duo has been devoted to pedaling for a cancer cure. In fact, they are competing to see who can raise the most money for cancer research and yes, there’s a wager on the line.
When Kory lost his two-year battle with cancer, Liz and TJ decided to work hard to raise money for cancer research. In fact, the pair made a steep bet which has been going on for three years. If TJ – who’s known for his long “golden locks” – raises more money than his mom, she’ll have to give up all caffeine for 30 days. If Liz raises more money, TJ will put his “locks” on the chopping block. Together, the two believe they can “change the game” and win the fight against cancer.
At the moment, TJ has a slight edge. He thought of a creative way to increase his chances of winning and keeping his locks. He decided to “Go Gray in May” by teaming up with the Legends Socks Co to create Super K gray socks in honor of Kory.
TJ’s lacrosse coach and team are “going gray” and wearing the Super K socks for the spring season in honor of Kory Hunter and in support of the cause.
Proceeds from sock sales will be donated to the Tour de Pier which benefits three cancer charities: the Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research; the Cancer Support Community Redondo Beach and the Uncle Kory Foundation. Last year, TJ raised more than $3000 and it looks as if he’s on the path to breaking his record and having his mom detox from caffeine for a month.
The 6th Annual Tour de Pier is a unique fundraising event that brings one of the hottest indoor fitness activities – stationary cycling – to the gorgeous outdoors of Manhattan Beach. Ride in place with an ocean view!
