Mike Vitale Takes Acoustic Indie Rock Very Seriously– and Still Has Fun. LA-Story Emerging Musician Blog
Indie Rock is a broad spectrum of music– and so many sub-categories. As a person who loves to sleuth out the latest or more interesting new musicians, here’s one that you might have heard– or maybe not. Mike Vitale works primarily acoustically –solo except for his guitar though on his CD, Idiosyncracies.
He’s strong on the lyrics and his musicianship is right on. He’s nailed down music that shows the ups and downs and turn-arounds of relationships– potential, real or wished for. I can’t even tell you which one is my favorite song – though his music does echo in my head and the iPOD and CDs are constantly running him with my top 5 artists.
Here’s a taste of Mike Vitale in a video– and he’s cuter than this too. But I love the edgy look.
Witty and smart, he’s as willing to share his deepest emotions– wanting a girl who doesn’t realize he’s alive, or the relationship going through the shredder with a single kiss, or the loss of a long friendship because someone’s moving away. He’s opened his heart and soul and he shares it willingly– no easy feat. Totally accessible, I find that his best are some of the more unusual ones like the video as well as the darker tones like Weight of the World.
However, don’t think that Vitale lacks a sense of humor. He has that in spades and created a song about a grocery store clerk– and that’s ALL I am going to say about it but it’s smart, funny and really in touch with the reality of the mundane (or not so mundane) aspects of life
So do yourself a favor– download Idiosyncracies or buy it from CD BABY or buy direct from Vitale. If you have a chance to be in the LA area and can catch him, he’s worth seeing. He’s extremely accessible and friendly. Check him out at www.myspace.com/mikevitale
