Summer's Coming Fast! Looking for a Workout that Will Kick Your Body Into High Gear? Check Out Cross-Fit!

It’s almost summer and next week I am going to feature several articles about swimwear. The timely question is ” are you ready” for that bathing suit ? Can you pass that test of going into a dressing room? How about when you step on the scale– or do you even do that?
Can you look at yourself as you steep out of the shower and think “pretty good”?
Let’s get past the looking good stage and ask yourself, how good do you feel? Can you keep up with friends (or kids) when running? Does your dog beat you to the door and look back and you and give you a snarky grin? Can you handle all the lifting from a heavy duty grocery shopping or moving furniture? If not, maybe you need to be working out more than you think. Fitness is more than about looking good, it’s about being healthy with muscles that get used and cardiac fitness that sustains you when running or performing significant exertion.
Everyone can stand improvement (goodness knows I have tried so many workouts, it’s hysterical that things I have done). Mixing up the workout so that muscle memory doesn’t set in making workouts less than effective is an important consideration.

Peter Shankman recently mentioned a workout that as he said made him “turn white” because it’s a killer workout. Cross-Fit is the workout.

What is Cross-Fit?
Here it is in their own words (edited down for brevity)
CrossFit is the principal strength and conditioning program for many police academies and tactical operations teams, military special operations units, champion martial artists, and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide.
Our program delivers a fitness that is, by design, broad, general, and inclusive. Our specialty is not specializing. Combat, survival, many sports, and life reward this kind of fitness and, on average, punish the specialist.
The CrossFit program is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. We’ve used our same routines for elderly individuals with heart disease and cage fighters one month out from televised bouts. We scale load and intensity; we don’t change programs.
In other words, YOU can workout this way — it’s just scaled back to work out for your personal situation.
