How — and What– to Use in the Shower to Prevent Irritation from Shaving!

Dr. Neal Schultz is a really smart Dermatologist and web-savvy too. He has a slew of videos and here’s one that I love because it explains why my skin gets so irritated when I use a razor on my legs — despite rich lotions, creams etc– and how to avoid it.

Dr. Schultz’ tip of the week: How to Avoid Irritation from Shaving!

With shaving comes irritation, nicks, and cuts, and none are more annoying than the ones that you get on your legs. But there’s an easy way to avoid them, guaranteed: only use shaving gels, not creams or foams. Since there is so little friction with gels, they enable the razor to slide more smoothly across your skin without snagging any hairs (which is what causes problems). And as always, when it comes to shaving, only shave at the end of a shower when your skin and hair is most moist, and always shave first with the grain, and then if necessary for a closer shave, ( then try it )against (the grain)

What’s cool is that guys pretty much already know all this– but girls never have figured that out since we tend to use a rich soap or lotion. Now I have the real scoop and the problem is solved.
