More on the Charities
COMMUNITIES IN SCHOOLS (CIS) – the leading community-based organization helping kids succeed in school and prepare for life. For more than 30 years, CIS has championed the connection of needed community resources with schools. Communities In Schools is the nation’s largest dropout prevention organization, working in nearly 3,300 K-12 public schools. Today, more than 1.3 million young people annually receive direct services through almost 200 Communities In Schools local affiliates in 26 states and the District of Columbia. Between 80-90 percent of Communities In Schools’ tracked students show improvement in academic achievement, attendance, behavior and promotion to the next grade level.
THE STORY PROJECT – reaches thousands of kids with an entertainment-arts curriculum made possible by media professionals working in today’s film, television, and music industries to stop the declining literacy rate. Each class occurs in an after-school setting where working writers, actors, musicians, directors and production professionals volunteer their time to our students. Through discussions and activities based in screenwriting, filmmaking, poetry, photography, and an assortment of media and art related fields, the mentors reveal personal stories while inspiring the kids to share their own.
PS. Gaudy PR and Avo Yermagyan did an awesome job of PR on this great event. A round of applause on this one!!
