Swarovski Fashion Week: Rodarte Stays True to Design Aesthetic Yet Pushes Envelope

The house of Rodarte was created by designer sisters Laura Mulleavy and Kate Mulleavy, who have finally established themselves in the global fashion firmament. With Swarovski as their biggest sponsor and also their sponsor for the longest consecutive time, it shows that the unique, creative juices reflected in these very different designs are resonating with designers, celebrities, and the fashionista community. Winning the CFDA Award for Womenswear this past year catapulted them into the big leagues. No longer a junior partner in the fashion world, Rodarte is taken quite seriously for its innovative presentations.

Celebrities haunt this line. They stand in line to get into the shows, to wear the garments. It requires a certain open-minded design aesthetic to be able to wear these creations because some aren’t all that serious–like the glow-in-the-dark shoes.

While they might not be your cup of fashion tea, the Mulleavy sisters’ creative vision cannot be disputed. They are so incredibly gifted and their work should be seen as fashion as art rather than simply fashion as clothing. Sometimes, it requires the confidence to buy it and wear it with even more confidence, knowing that you are wearing something truly visionary.

As always, the Rodarte line never fails to surprise or give someone something unique and different to look at
