Music Mania: Mohombi Mixes New Rhythms Into Dance Music!

Mohombi might not be a name you hear often right now , but don’t let that stop you from reading this post or listening to this podcast.

Why? Because you are going to hear and see the next big cross-over in music. This is a global rhythms music– a fusion of African rhythms and lyricism with a touch of hip-hop, R&B along with serious Latin flavor. It’s like a musical meal that’s just so hot, so intoxicating and so interesting that you have to get up and dance– yet you still want to hear the lyrics.

Mohombi + Nelly ” Miss Me’

Mohombi’s not your usual musician/singer. His background is far from what you would consider usual– unless you know a lot of people who have lived in a warzone and had to evacuate that same warzone (in Africa no less) with virtually no notice and head to stay with family in Europe– without their parents. Superficial he isn’t and Mohombi talks about how the events affected him. There is that impression that he values family and life and used music as a cathartic tool to process those events. He has created a unique musical sound that is derived by turning negative events into something incredibly positive and also something that gives to others.

Mohombi- doing a GQ thing..

While he builds on the best of the background of each of his parents (his father is Congolese and his mother is Swedish and they lived in the Congo until the war broke out), Mohombi synthesizes the European roots of his mother and her family and his father and his family as well as what he has learned from living in Los Angeles. The music is full of interesting references and his choreography has direct Latin and African moves and derivations. You need to see the videos and you need to get his music!

Thank you to Mohombi for his time. He’s got an incredible music career in front of him.
Hopefully I will get a chance to speak to him again.. perhaps on video to get a bit more on how he and his career have evolved.
I would normally have tour dates for him but he’s in Europe right now and his sites do not have current information. Best bet, watch for the Grammys as well as follow him on Twitter and ask him!!
