Terrific article! There is a real need for manufacturers to WAKE-UP!
I am a top size 8 fit models and can shed some light on the subject. I’ve been interviewed in Vogue/ Inside Edition and am currently working for Jones N.Y., Victoria Secret, Bon Ton, Larry Levine (Bill Blass), and Cold Water Creek who never deviate from their sizing. The government has issued 32 exact measurements for the “the perfect size 8″. Manufacturers are recommended to use them as their standard. There are a highly qualified fit models that are experts in their field, maintain their weight and are very knowledgeable consultants. Due to budget cuts, and models undercutting in fees as well as going directly with companies without agents, manufacturers think they can cut corners and get away with hiring an inexperienced size 6 or 4 unemployed runway or showroom model/receptionists whose weight fluxuates and may not be proportioned as the government survey recommends. The results are exactly what you are reporting…INCONSISTANCY! We need to get back to the “pros” and get away from the cheapskates. In the long run, the customer suffers and that’s just not fair.
Regards,
Pat Hill
