Glam Girl with a Gun – Piper Perabo returns in “Covert Affairs”. Who Says Spy Games Are Just for Men?

Marie Bargas from StyleCoven.com hit a “pre-Emmy” event for USA Network’s Covert Affairs (USA Network, 10 ET/PT) which is premiering tonight after White Collar (9 PM ET/PT, USA Network) Shes has filed this story with us so that we can live vicariously through her adventures. Turns out the girl has connections (Marie!!)

Who says the spy game has to be a man’s game? Sure, I grew up loving James Bond and Austin Powers, but on TV espionage has outgrown the boys club and blossomed into a selection of female spies that are icons of feminine empowerment. While “Dark Angel”, “Alias” and “Nikita” include some hot ass-kicking heroines like Jessica Alba, Jennifer Garner and Maggie Q these femme fatales are super hero strong and smart, but certainly not the girl-next-door. Enter Piper Perabo’s “Annie Walker” from “Covert Affairs” and finally there’s some balance in the lot and thankfully some high voltage glamour. Annie kicks down doors in Christian Louboutin heels! And that’s just one reason why I love that girl. Memorable roles in COYOTE UGLY and the PRESTIGE have showcased Perabo’s versatility as an actress, but “Covert Affairs” makes you love her and it is not an unrequited love. In person Piper is warm, friendly and the kind of gal who you wouldn’t mind having as a bff.

In a recent Q & A at the Television Academy show creator Doug Liman of “Bourne Trilogy” fame confessed that the character of Annie is more interesting to him and his team because of her inexperience and innocence. She is vulnerable and her character is at a stage where she is literally “growing up” in the super secret world of the CIA. So, as she grows we grow and that makes her more like us. She is easy to root for. She could have been your best friend in college.

The rapport between Annie and her blind best friend at the agency, Auggie Anderson, played by the hunky Chris Gorham from “Ugly Betty” and “Harper’s Island” is sometimes chummy and sometimes bordering on romantic which makes for a good prelude to a possible MY BEST FRIENDS WEDDING episode in the near future. Peter Gallagher shines as the shady CIA Chief of the Clandestine Service Department. But, I miss the uber bitchiness from Danielle Brooks from her “House” days as Amber!

Annie is challenged with keeping her real job a secret from her sister and all her friends. In order to bring a deeper dimension to her character Piper spent some time with some real CIA agents. But, what made that time more relevant to me personally was she that asked the questions that I would have asked. The question, “Who is your boyfriend?” is all the more important today because we finally get to see what happens between Annie and her mysterious lost love – Ben Mercer. Well, I won’t spoil that for you, but what I will say is that their relationship reminds me too well of the story of the “man that got away” and came back… and keeps coming back… and going away. Sound familiar?

So do yourself a favor and check out the “Covert Affairs” today. The series premiere airs tonight. Don’t miss the Covert Affairs season premiere — “Begin the Begin” — Tuesday 10/9C! Get caught up by watching the Season 1 Marathon on Tuesday morning

Thank you to Marie Bargas for such amazing coverage and don’t miss this episode. At least DVR it!!
