M.A.C.’s Limited Edition Beauty Blogger Collection Launches 6/21-

Allure.com’s Heather Muir ran this piece on M.A.C.’s new beauty blogger collection.

M.A.C. recently gave nine lucky beauty bloggers the opportunity to create their own eye shadow or Lipglass as part of the company’s newest collection—Bloggers’ Obsessions—on shelves June 21 through August 2 (and available only on maccosmetics.com). Allure chatted with one of the bloggers, Amber Katz (check out her blog at beautybloggingjunkie.com) about making makeup:

Allure: What do you love about M.A.C.? Do you have an ultimate favorite product?
Katz: “I love that M.A.C. products have always been edgy and affordable. My two favorites are Amber Lights EyeShadow for obvious reasons and Venetian Lustreglass—it’s a red that Dita Von Teese says she wears to do yoga.”

Allure: What’s your own blog about?
Katz: “It’s made up of beauty reviews with pop culture references—TV, music, etc.—mentioned in each. I’m a financial copy editor and write for other outlets, like MTV’s pop culture blog, but beauty is my passion.”

Allure: How were you told about the M.A.C. opportunity?
Katz: “I applied in early January, along with about 80 other beauty bloggers. I made a concept, storyboard, and 250 word description for both a Lipglass and an eye shadow, then found out in April that my shadow was chosen.”

Allure: What was your experience like in M.A.C.’s Toronto lab?
Katz: “Amazing! I was partnered with a chemist, who helped me formulate the correct proportions of colors. I mixed four powders—red, yellow, black, and white—to make a rusty brown shade, then I added champagne-colored glitter.”

Allure: How did you choose your color—”Sparkle—Neely, Sparkle!” and its name?
Katz: “My inspiration was Valley of the Dolls, which is always my go-to aesthetic. The rusty brown is a color I’ve been looking for for a long time. It flatters a wide variety of skin tones, brings out light eyes, and can be used to create a smoky eye or used as liner by wetting a slanted brush, like I do.”

Allure: How does it feel to have made your own M.A.C. product?
Katz: “Crazy! I’m getting about 20 shadows from M.A.C., so I’ll give one to my mom, four or five to my friends, then giveaway some on my blog. I’ll buy more, too, so I can hoard them because I’m a beauty freak and never want to run out of this shade!”

The other bloggers/shadow-makers include:
Christine Mielke of temptalia.com (her shade: emerald green with teal and gold pearl)
Lesley Ellen Mirza of lipstickpowdernpaint.com (muted grey-blue)
Lianne Farbes of themakeupgirl.net (dark grey with silver pearl)

…And the Lipglass creators:
Karen Monterichard of makeupandbeautyblog.com (her shade: peachy pink with multi-colored flecks)
Patrice Yursik of afrobella.com (shimmery purple)
Lily Nima of beautymaverick.com (persimmon orange)
Aileen De Los Angeles of theshadesofu.com (pearly coral)
Wendy Lam of nitrolicious.com (shiny red)

If you had an opportunity to create a cosmetics line or even one piece of a collection– what would you create? How would you do it? What color, texture, presentation would it be?
Share your ideas and tell me!! If it were me, I would create an interesting creamy or a loose powder shadow with iridescence
