Be the ENVY of Your Friends with Pravana Perfection Hair Smoothing Technique.
I went in search of a salon that had a specific hair smoothing treatment that was all natural and used a lower heat to smooth out the hair. The brand/treatment is called Pravana Perfection. I had heard about it from Beverly Hills Color Bar’s Stevey! I should have bought one on their Groupon deal back a few months ago, but I didn’t. (dumb move right? ) Eventually that meant I had to try this natural treatment that smooths out your hair without Keratin, any aldhyde development and allows for same day shampooo and/or coloring.
I went to the brand site and found about 5 places relatively near me. I called the one closest to me, Envy Beauty Studio and spoke to a stylist (Sharoni) on the phone about the treatment.
As a beauty editor, I do my homework. I had checked out the treatment completely but I still had questions. She spent about 20 minutes on the phone with me about the treatment answering my questions. I made an appointment to get into Envy pronto.. because of several appts I had coming up + a vacation that absolutely required something to control humidity with my hair.
I went to this salon, having scouted out where it was and was very impressed walking in. This isn’t your typical salon. Think salon with a large sitting area with couches and free wifi access so you can plop yourself down with a laptop and have a soda, wine or a beer and hang out. The place has a more informal feel with lots of great artwork on the walls and even better artwork going on in the chairs.
This is a salon that is going green and is very picky about their products. I liked talking to Sharoni and she understood why I was so concerned about my hair because while it’s very fine, there’s a lot of it. Add in that I have highlights and you can see that I am not an easy fix.
I had the Pravana Perfection treatment and it was so easy. Wash my hair, condition it, blow it 90% dry and then start apply the smoothing solution. It took longer than anticipated because I have “so much hair”. (Most people don’t believe that when I tell them that.). No smell. no irritation and no gloves either! (What a blessing that is!).
It sat on my hair for 15 minutes and then was rinsed out and then my hair was blown dry relatively straight (I like volume and bend– not stick straight hair) and then gets flat-ironed at 360 degrees– HUGE difference than other keratin based treatments that require 450 degrees. My ends weren’t being turned into crispy bits!! No smell, no aldehyde odor because this is NOT a keratin treatment. After the flat iron treatment was done, then the product was washed out of my hair and conditioned. I then hit the chair for a blow and and wow.. that was FAST. You could see that my hair was smooth, silky and shiny. It didn’t look dry or have those dry ends. One of the cool things is that I didn’t have to wait 3 days or any days to wash or color my hair. I could do that the next day if I chose to do so.
My hair has movement, volumen and shine along with being frizz-free.
I like this.
I liked Sharoni as well. She was efficient and friendly. While the treatment took longer because I have so much hair, it was worth it. It’s also affordable. I did buy the shampoo and conditioner because I want to stretch this treatment out. I like Sharoni a lot and we talked about the line as well as how to treat hair. She knows her stuff about curly hair and about other types of hair. This woman has seriously great knowledge. I like that because I actually have curly hair that I am trying to grow out without looking like a fuzz ball. This treatment allows me to do that so that I can then let the treatment wear off once I get to the right length.
I have been to at least 60 different salons in LA, OC, & NY.. and this one can definitely stand up there with the rest of them. Long Beach makes it centrally located if you are in the OC or looking for a good salon that doesn’t have the celebnty oriented price tags typically associated wtih these kind of treatments. I like that they were so close and that they were only one of 5 salons in my about 7 mile range from where I live. They cared about my hair and about me being happy with it. I am!!
I would highly recommend this salon and the staff. Stephanie the owner is very knowledgeable and I like that they are approaching an eco-friendly attitude about the entire salon– but with a thought to be workable with your time as a client– along with the ability to buy the products you need to protect what you have had done to your hair.
Definitely a winner in my book!
Check out this brand because they have a beachy waves sort of treatment too. (hmmm, can see me doing that one too)
