Nancy Knows–Jewelista Website Lets Jewelry Take the Center Stage As Fashion Statement

Courtesy of Nancy Lichtenstein whose absence has been duly noted and presence missed. She had a chance to check out this cool new jewelry site that has some reasonably priced items that will add a chic statement to any outfit you wear.

For those of us who are obsessed with jewelry, a new website called Jewelista will be tops on our wish list this holiday season. With around 15 up-and-coming designers who are true artists, it satisfies the craving for a statement piece and gives you the opportunity to choose between going all out or keeping things real for those of us who are still on a budget.
“Jewelista.com was born out of the idea that jewelry is just as important as apparel in expressing personal style,” explains Baiju Bhansali, founder of the site and long-time diamond specialist and jewelry expert. Bhansali and his team are challenging conventional fashion wisdom by placing jewelry at the forefront of style.

I’m usually of the less-is-more esthetic when it comes to jewelry and I’ve had battles with my mom over the years over what I describe as her attempt to gild the lily—“You look nice but you need some bangle bracelets, and a necklace, and maybe a belt!”—but after returning to corporate America recently I’m beginning to see the wisdom in dressing simply in well-cut clothes and then catching the eye with a beautiful necklace or other piece of wearable art. Jewelista definitely is a great source, with gorgeously eye-catching pieces to suit all senses of style. Here are a few pieces I can’t stop looking at (I’m actually copying the links into an email to my husband as I type):< 1. Rosewood and Silver Stud Circle Narrow Bangle, $115

There’s something about the juxtaposition of nature and artifice here that I just love. It has a very subtle Mother-Nature-as-Domme vibe that I totally dig, and yet it looks ladylike enough so that I wouldn’t be embarrassed opening it under the Christmas tree or wearing it to work.

2. Sterling Silver Gemstone Necklace, $369.

Have I mentioned that I’ve been on a Christian emo space rock kick lately? (Brave Saint Saturn, check them out, especially if you have a flair for the dramatic.) Probably not, as it’s been a while since I’ve done a guest post. Anyway, this is the necklace I want to wear as I gaze down sadly from my domed tower onto a planet that burns for its sins. Or maybe just to meet friends after work for a cocktail at that little bar where the artists hang out.

(Stevie PS: This is a MICHOU piece of jewelry. It’s stunning simplicity sets off the gems incredibly well. The price is a bargain. I know. I have some Michou pieces that are amazing.)

3. 18 Karat Gold Green and Quartz Pendant, $1,925.00

This is what I’d wear to tea at the Plaza with my best Chanel suit, while taking a break from shopping on Fifth Avenue. It would require a bodyguard to accompany me but as it’s not Oscar season, maybe Harry Winston could loan one out. (For the glam this piece provides, it’s a relative bargain.)
Okay, so we’ve clearly established that I have identity issues, but that’s kind of the whole point of this site. I could wear any one of these pieces with the plain black wrap dress I’m wore to work today and get a totally different vibe. You can be whoever you want with one well-chosen piece of jewelry from Jewelista and make a clear fashion statement without having to fuss over details.

You definitely want to check out www.jewelista.com— a great site with affordable prices!
Thank you again to Nancy Lichtenstein for her contribution.
