Celebrity Stylist & Designer Joey Tierney Hits You with Summer to Fall Transition Tips!
It’s now later August and the stores are full of fall fashions but the weather makes it impossible to wear them. While we want to buy, the trick is to make everything work so that you can transition to fall later in late September or even into October. Here in Los Angeles, we are lucky to be able to wear lighter clothing during the day but the temps drop pretty rapidly at night so a jacket or coat is a must. The trick is how to juggle these disparate temperatures and work it into your fall wardrobe without frying or freezing!
According to WWD’s Beauty Biz “It List”, Joey Tierney is a stylist that is on many a celeb’s speed-dial list (clients include Kristen Bell, Dianna Agron, Rose Byrne, Julie Benz, Viggo Mortenson, Seth Green, Dustin Hoffman, Britney Spears and Sharon & Ozzy Osbourne). She’s an expert for Access Hollywood Live, E!’s “Fashion Police”, TV Guide’s “The Fashion Team”. Her fashion savvy and creativity are sure to help out when you look at how to dress for work or play no matter the crazy weather we are all enduring across the country.
Here are some tips from Joey Tierney (celebrity stylist & designer) to transition into Fall:
Transition your favorite summer shorts to fall by wearing them over tights with ankle boots
2) Don’t put your cropped tops away just yet – just add a blazer and your summer staple will fit right in
3) Add a fall colored V-neck cashmere sweater to a classic white collared dress shirt.
4) Take a printed top and switch from denim cut off’s to high-waisted flared dark wash jeans. Seven For All Mankind is my go-to for a perfect fit
5) Invest in versatile wardrobe pieces that can take you from season to season (i.e a blazer, pencil skirt or accessories such as a chain belt)
Here are my tips that give you some additional ideas on how to implement Joey’s tips!
Stevie’s tip #1: try lighter shades of tights or patterned tights that are more mesh-like and lighter-weight so that you look polished but without sacrificing comfort.
Stevie’s tip #2: depending on how cropped those tops are, layer them over tanks — particularly lace over solid colors that blend with the blazer and skirt or pants you are wearing!
Stevie’s tip #3: love the high-waisted denim jeans– but look towards a variety of styles: skinnies, boot-cuts and especially wide-leg denim trousers which will work from day to night easily.
Stevie’s tip #4: given the profileration of lightweight cashmere, layer this over a classic shirt. White is great but don’t forget about those great pops of color to brighten up the outfit, particularly if you are working black, gray or navy in the outfit. Whether a pullover sweater or a cardi, work the look with an eye towards fall so that the sweater fits comfortably under a blazer or a coat as well.
Stevie’s tip #5: investment in key pieces is worth the money — and you can find some still on summer clearance that could work year-round. Depending on the store or brand, summer-weight wool is available as well as a variety of other fabrics. Blazers, pencil skirts (do look at a variety of fabrics like denim –I have two in my closet; light-weight wool twill or a blend that doesn’t wrinkle and is comfortable) as well as key accessories like shoes, handbags, leather or chain belts and jewelry– carefully choose what you are willing to spend serious bucks on; go “fast fashion” for the trendy pieces that will keep the look fresh.
