Holidays According to Sass Ashe! Holiday Party Etiquette On the Job! Party Smart!

We’ve all heard the stories of the girl who got drunk and did something bad at the office holiday party. Of course you may be wondering what else there is to do that’s fun at such an event. You may picture a stiff and well behaved crowd picking at appetizers and looking at their watches, and of course staring at the drunk chick dancing on a table. Your office holiday party doesn’t have to be the bane of your holiday season, you can employ the following etiquette tips to shake things up and make it a party to remember without being the girl who ends up topless.

Fun office party?

Holiday Party Etiquette #1

Limit yourself to two cocktails. Don’t worry you’re going to have so much fun watching everyone else that you won’t need that social inhibitions release. It is easy to slip into the habit of continually sipping and refilling your drink, but unless you have a goal of being plastered on Facebook sans shirt and with drool hanging from your chin drink in moderation!

Holiday Party Etiquette #2

Speak to everyone at the party. Many times you tend to stick to conversing with those co-workers and their spouses that you know well. But really, you know you want to get to know that drunk girl a little better, maybe you can fetch her another drink and enjoy the spectacle.  Encourage people to dance and drink! Seriously an office party is only as boring as you allow it to be. Socialize and realize that you aren’t on the clock, you can have fun!

Holiday Party Etiquette #3

When the drunk girl begins taking her clothes off and dancing inappropriately with the boss in front of his wife don’t you dare do anything to help her retain some dignity. Stand back, sip the last half of your 2nd cocktail and whip out your iPhone to record the moment for posterity.

Holiday Party Etiquette #4

You are what you wear. Don’t bring the most dazzling dress to the office party. You aren’t there to flirt with every man! What you want to do is dress UP from the office attire so make sure that you have great — but comfortable– shoes, a handbag that isn’t so tiny that leave it around, a dress or skirt and top that is glitzy but not too glamourous so that you can wear some amazing earrings or a statement necklace. Don’t go for the uber-short lacey dress that makes them wonder what you are wearing. This is the time to impress your supervisors with your ability to make good judgement calls. Even if you are wearing pants– (NOT jeans) try wide leg ones paired with a pretty blouse or a great sweater and some super shoes. Don’t forget that the false eyelashes aren’t necessary for this event and leaving lip-gloss marks on every glass isn’t always good judgement.

Holiday Party Etiquette #5

If the music is danceable, go ahead and dance if others are dancing. However keep the dancing low-key– meaning no grinding or “sexy back” that would have anyone (wife, significant other, colleagues or supervisors) wondering what’s going on. There’s a time and a place and the company holiday party is neither one.

The main point of this post is that while you can enjoy and laugh at the drunk girl, you don’t want to be her. Keep your drinking under control until you get home, then you can get drunk and dance naked all you want, just don’t break your coffee table.

  1. Love tip #3!!! My aim every holiday season is to not be the girl everyone remembers for the wrong reasons – it’s worked out so far 🙂
