I do indeed agree that there is a degree of things that don’t work. When CS is one of them, that’s something that can be fixed and should be fixed QUICKLY and treat the customer nicely and not like I am an idiot.
I only took this to twitter because of CS lack of follow-up and they bascially blew me off. What I am doing has included some discussions with @Whirlpoolcare and I made suggestions about changing policies, procedures and also responding sooner to tweets that clearly are stating there is a problem. Dont’ wait a week to see if it goes away. The failure to disclose on their refrigerators -certain models– that it requires 24 hours to cool before you put food into it AND that they are not responsible for lost food costs should be posted on the the refrigerator list of features. disclose disclose disclose before the purchase .. not after the purchase.
You are lucky that you didn’t have to deal with losing food. And I am so happy that they do get you service in 2 days. I know that they couldn’t guarantee me 2 day service — more like 3 and one of those days was a Sunday.. so it might have been 4. I was looking for a way to make this work out nicely so that I could say that Whirlpool CARES but it’s not turning out that way.
Offering me something that they could not quantify as being valuable– meant that they knew it was worthless and I knew it too. I told them that. They are not working with me– they are trying to ignore my request for change of policy and disclose before the refrigerator gets into the home when all that would require is a sticker slapped on the showroom demo models.
I am not trying to desicrate a brand- I am trying to get them to realize that the customer has a right to know that on that model 24 hours is required to cool the unit and then you can “legally” under their warranty put food in the refrigerator. And I have had 3 conversations with them about this. And they always end up in dead silence.

I have been reasonable and effective with other companies that include Kayser Roth, ATT, Verizon, Apple, Microsoft & Dell in changing some policies when their customer service failed.

Thankfully the store I purchased it from was more flexible, kind and really went the distance by being willing to bring me a brand new refrigerator that would work and without a dent. They deserve the applause.

Tell me if you car fell apart or was one of those brands that was recalled, would you not be unhappy if you had paid for the repairs upfront or the car had caused you distress or you had to pay out of pocket for a rental car ? Would you be calling them a great brand if you weren’t reimbursed for something that was truly a mgf failure– ( I am not saying deliberately .. things happen) if you weren’t reimbursed for that rental expense and that the company told you after the fact that in the owners manual that any expense like that was not their responsibility?

Take a look at it that way. You got treated so nicely by Whirlpool. I am glad that it is true. I wish I had been treated the same way.

Even six-sigma companies have a small defect rate (3.4 per million). Naturally, not every appliance will work perfectly. I recently had a brand new induction cooktop die right before Christmas due to a control board failure. Whirlpool (KitchenAid) was able to send someone two days later to replace it on Christmas Eve, right in time for my family’s celebration. Perhaps the message here is that creating a “firestorm” of social media negativity and setting out to desecrate the brand isn’t the appropriate solution, nor the appropriate medium for getting results.

MOST brands including others under the whirlpool corp umbrella have 4 hour cooling time. I made the pointn to the person from Whirlpool that they should have that on EVERY Whirlpool refrigerator as a sticker OR that the owners manual be inside the demo floor models so that a consumer would KNOW this up front. When a store has over 100 models of refrigerators on the floor, it’s impossible to know everything. However Whirlpool can make that notation easily via a sticker. had I known that I would not have purchased that model OR I would have been ready with a cooler.
I feel that this is a matter of disclosure. Whirlpool wouldn’t make things easier for me.. and quite frankly they are known on ripoff.com for other problems with other brands they sell. One Kitchenaide customer had been dealing with a non-functional Kitchenaide refrigerator for over 60 days. I worked with the store, they moved faster than Whirlpool..I don’t hold the store responsible when Whirlpool should make the terms of the purchase apparent before the sale.

In the end when something like this happens to me I tend to walk away from the stress…

But when no one tells you and the store didn’t realize that till I called them and told them the refrigerator needed to be replaced because it was warmer inside the frig than my house was…. they told me that the 24 hours was to make them bulletproof legally.
However that said, I found other brands including those under Whirlpool corp umbrella where they say 4 hours cooling time.
Therein lies the question: why the difference? Does that mean Whirlpool products are less dependable?
What they need to do is put a sticker that says requires 24 hour cooling time upon installation and they are not responsible for loss of food.

It looks like a very nice unit from the outside. I guess the Whirlpool (misplaced) disclaimer is to prevent lawsuits from people loading up the fridge with mayo and potato salad before the unit chills to the proper temperature. Too bad you didn’t have something like this to use in the interim:

Rubbermaid 45 qt. Blue Wheeled Cooler
