The Oscars Red Carpet Means the End of a Marathon– for Celebs & Media!

It’s interesting for those of us who live in So. Calif and choose to cover the red carpet. I started out covering fashion and beauty and ultimately the celebrity obsession focused neatly and quite specifically on the various awards seasons and red carpet events. Even the pre-events are important to a degree based on who you get to see and which ones you are invited to. I culled down what I covered and where I went based on convenience and the welcome that I have been provided. There are events where I am asked to cover– and I walk away with zip– and what I get in return could be a big box of swag sent to me or big box of four tote bags and a beach towel.

When this little box came in the mail and I opened it up I burst out laughing. I know the PR firm who sent it. It was perfect for me! It got my sense of humor. It touched on my obsession with skincare but it also realized that I had run a marathon and gauntlet. Granted celebs do the same thing, except they get chauffeured to the events and have people help them get dressed and look nice.
For media, we have to look nice, keep touching up, and also wonder how many events we can cover without eating — especially if they don’t have food or miniscule amounts as well as wearing shoes that need to be comfortable, on trend and work with our outfits. Don’t forget the handbags that often need to have cameras, tape recorders, paper, pads, brushes, breath mints and all kinds of assorted paraphenalia including enough change for meters or valet parking.

Thanks to Y PR, Goldfaden, Gorgeous Cosmetics, Beauty Collection and of course, Orville Reddenbacher– though I don’t think he had a lot to do with this little box. This little box is a trophy. The mug will be filled with pens or business cards.
While you will be seeing a lot of what happened on the Friday before Oscars and maybe a write-up on Independent Spirit Awards as well as lots of coverage of Oscar Red Carpet Fashion- you will be seeing a lot more things that are FUN, interesting and unique coming. Because while people think that the world revolves around the red carpet events– clearly as Marc Silverstein and I showed you– it’s the movies themselves that capture OUR attention as media. That’s what I go to the movies for: to see something special. Not because of one actor, but for a story that takes me someplace– much like Ang Lee did in Life of Pi! That movie was like the first Matrix. It challenges everything you thought, you felt, and what really happened.
It’s up to you to decide if the tiger or Trinity existed. I have no illusions but I know what resonates with me.

Thanks to Y PR for their creativity and ingenuity. I have been running since Christmas to events featuring celebrities in all kinds of sectors from conventions to red carpet.
