How to Get — and Care For — Red Carpet Hair: Tips from Natasha Sunshine, Celebrity Hairstylist!

Natasha Sunshine, celebrity hair stylist, Pureology Ambassador and her salon Byuti are no strangers to this blog. I have been there a number of times, always come out looking amazing. Never a bad or unhappy result from Byuti and Pureology!

While Natasha was recently featured regarding an Oscar suite, II was able to get some more in-depth “soundbytes” from Natasha about how to keep your hair in good shape!

Given that at the other awards shows we saw a real return to Old Hollywood Glamour, what’s your take on what will be the looks for the Oscars- the 2 to 3 styles that will be key?

Natasha Sunshine

Classic beauty was the underlining theme at the Oscars this year. We saw beautiful, time honored looks. Set waves worn down, low chignon’s and heightened crowns were the key features to this year’s styles.

What products would you recommend for those with long hair?

Natasha Sunshine

    Condition:

Long hair always needs an extra dousing of nutrients. Using a once a week masque treatment is a sure way to keep your long hair in great shape beyond your daily conditioner. Try Pureology’s Precious Oil Masque for five minutes to give an extra blast of health to your hair.

Styling:
Using a styler that promotes strength like Nourishing Nectar for body and Cuticle Polisher for shine. You get a boost of vegan protein to keep your long locks strong and healthy.

How would one do this if one doesn’t have long hair but more shoulder length or even a bob.How can one make them into a glam hair style & what products would you recommend:

Natasha Sunshine:

Shoulder length hair is gorgeous with crisp waves and volume.
Using a dollop of Nourishing Nectar when hair is wet is a great base to begin with because it imparts incredible shine and gives a great hold to any style.

You’ll want to rough dry your hair to dry then set hair around a 1-1 ½” inch curling iron, taking 2×2” sections until the entire head is set. Finish by raking your fingers through. Add some hairspray (I love Strengthening Control – great hold yet soft to the touch) and you are just as glamour girl as your long hair friends.

Clearly RED (thank you Jessica Chastain and Julianne Moore) is making a return to red carpet for hair color. How can those who don’t have naturally red hair find the right color for them and how can they keep the color up and true since it is the most difficult color in terms of fading ?

Natasha Sunshine

Run as fast as you can to Pureology’s Reviving Red line. If you’re already a red head, the shampoo, conditioner and Illuminating Caring Oil styler is incredible. With it’s Oleo Anti-Fade Complex, it’ll keep your color vibrant, shiny and gorgeous beyond anything you’ve known before. Plus, the Reviving Red Reflect Enhancers once a week deep treatments in copper and red can give you a hint of color for those of you that want to test the red waters and condition at the same time.

Given that we have had the wildest weather across the country from icy storms, to huge wind storms and tornados and then sunny, really warm weather– hair has taken a beating. I know that I try to really be good to my hair, but everyone I see has mentioned how dry and parched their hair is. What can we do to fix that? Not everyone has the ability to pop into Byuti for your fabulous treatments (Love!).

What would your recommendation for someone sitting in your chair — particularly someone who colors or has overdone the hot tools or extensions to the point of hair breakage (for example January Jones)

Natasha Sunshine

It’s all about the routine. Stick to using the products that will nourish your hair appropriately for your needs. Go to http://www.pureology.com/consultation to get an in depth consultation on the right product family for your hair.

Aside from that, using a masque 1-2 times a week depending on how undernourished your hair is a major tool in keeping your hair moisturized and healthy. These days, we don’t have to use products that harm our hair. Pureology’s entire styling line has Keravis in every Colour Styler to keep your hair plump and strong yet with all the benefits of styling products.

  1. Great ideas. True that old glam had long hair, and so do I. It requires extra care, just like this.

  2. my hair is fine and straight and has never grown below my shoulders (and looks straggly like that). I would have loved princess hair when I was a kid. Now I just love what I have (short and chic)
