Blogging was the first real shot or evolution of social media. While videos have been around ( I was one of the first to run streaming videos online– especially ones the company produced) along with what would become podcasts., blogging has its’ own art form and has a rhythm and a goal. It’s a sharing of content– some so superficial you might want to yawn– others are much deeper, darker and some are just plain TMI. However, given the length of time that I personally have been online, it’s always been hard NOT to inject my personal take and when editorial assignments came my way, I would leave in a couple extra days to cut my opinions OUT of the context.
However that said, people say they want to blog — but don’t want to do it on a regular basis. I suggest they put up “notes” or “updates” on their site rather than blog.
I totally agree with Ted and the ROI comes AFTER the ROR is established because you might buy once from someone– and it might be devoid of anything other than you getting what you want. It’s the true positives and negatives that drive the ROR and ultimately the ROI from blogging.
When it comes to foreign readership, I have a lot who do translate my blog and I can’t imagine trying to translate my LA/So. CA slang into another language. That said, I have to say I was NEVER so surprised as the day I saw an odd referrer code and when I looked it up — it said IRAN. I thought “impossible” .. but when I clicked on it- it was a version of my site.. almost identical except for music and flashing lights (really!) but the content was in Farsi.. which I was just blown away. That’s a lot of work to do that.

if you have people following you from other countries, do not change what you are doing. Keep it up and add more stuff in maybe different topics.. provided you have time. Just your photos a couple times a week would be great.

I have explained blogging recently to those who “want to but do not”. I said the best thing is connecting with people in ways you would never guess you would. I really wonder who the readers are that almost daily read my blog from the Russian Federation..or if they even read in English..
