eSalon.com’s Hair Color Kits ROCK My World: Easy to Look Great + Save Money and Time!

After everything I wrote about eSalon.com plus interviews, I finally got the “need” to use it. No my hair isn’t naturally blonde and the roots were showing and might be a bit of silver starting to show. Checking with my BFF’s some have had grey hair popping up since they were in their late 20’s so I don’t feel so bad. Still a girl (or a guy) has to do what they have to do.

I ordered the completed set up according to the color that Color Director Estelle had suggested for me. I even ordered their application kit too because I am good but I am not that good. I have spent too much time in various salon chairs to remember exactly what to do. (I go into a ZEN moment sitting in a salon chair. I *zone* out).

So reading the directions a couple of times and sifting through the gloves, the clips, the bowl, time with batteries and also brush, plus the hair color itself, I figured to dive in. How hard could it be?

Directions were crystal clear and easy to follow. Took me less time to do it than I thought (the application). The clips were helpful, the bowl & brush exceptionally so and I liked that the product didn’t “smell funny” like boxed hair color does from the drugstore. That told me quality ingredients. I liked that there were 2 sets of gloves, the stain-resistant gel to apply around your hair line and

The wait time was longer than I thought but less time than a salon. Makes sense though when you are getting salon-quality color: better to wait a bit longer and voila, amazing results. I even made one teeny error… but things were ok and in fact when I came out of the shower and blew-dry my hair, it was soft, shiny and the hair color was a 98% match. WOW!!! Who would have thought that something would come that close. I stoked. Yet I wanted to see how long it lasted and how the color took to my hair and every other thing I could think of.

So now is the time when I have had to do it again and I thought this time would be simpler. I wanted to make sure before I wrote this post that I had tried it twice. So as I write this on Sat. AM 6/1, I have redone the color. I had already planned out what to do with my time and I almost got the paper read and also cleaned up some stuff around the room. It’s simpler now that I had already done it. I laid out everything I needed and set up the shower so that I could do a better job on the color rinse in the shower. (It’s so much easier this way!)

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO in love with eSalon.com products. This kit is amazing for doing root touch-ups. I might ask for a bit more blonde or gold or something when it really gets into summer. I think I might go visit Color Director Estelle about what direction because I value her opinion. She had put together the perfect color to remove the red tones from the previous hair colo. Plus she had suggested balayage (highlight painting) rather than highlights. Estelle is so right on when it comes to suggestions- love the change in the way my hair looks.

I have been using both color treatment shampoos: the purple-y one to balance the tones and the one that is golden blonde to keep the hair more golden. So the second time around is was less tricky, since I knew more of what to do and I wasn’t wondering if I had done it correctly. Definitely allow an hour for your hair because the more time you have to be precise, the less mess there is.
Also make sure you have some good color-safe shampoo and all that good stuff to deep condition your hair afterward.
They give you samples in the kit but you want to have it on a regular basis. I am trying really hard to be very gentle and nurturing my hair to keep it healthy. It’s growing out better and while I had couple trims since my last batch of photos which aren’t up, I am happy with the way it looks. (more about that in another post).

I think that eSalon.com is the way to go for full head hair color changes and also for those wishing to make touch-ups on hair color changes or to cover grey at the roots. It’s great quality and it doesn’t smell. There is no guess work if you buy the kit and follow the directions exactly. (read that last sentence again).

I found that the color lasted longer but also because I was treating my hair better, it grew out faster but the color blended well with the roots so I have been about 8 weeks since the last touch-up. That’s why I am writing this blog post because it’s time for me to give eSalon.com a 5 star rating.

Why would you go have someone else do your roots– or your complete head of hair– when you can read the paper, check your email or watch TV while you are doing your color? Why spend the time and extra money when eSalon.com can help you do it for less. (For guys, it means the woman in your life could help you in case you decided you wanted to go crazy with color or just cover the gray.)

This is what I am going to be doing from now on. Girl Scout’s Honor. (oh wait.. I wasn’t a Girl Scout- still, that’s a promise). I like having consistently great hair color that isn’t going red or orange on me. How awesome is that?
(Pretty darn awesome for me!! Do you know how hard it is to live with ICKY hair color that you hate?)

  1. Oh how awesome! I ruined my locks one to many times with a drugstore dye kit, so now just resort to the hair stylist for occasional highlights. But this seems like a great alternative!

  2. Jess this is the PERFECT alternative for roots and touch-ups (not on highlights though). I have gone through virtually every hair color except for blue and I did have an odd shade of greenish blonde when I swam in a pool too much & TONS of mistakes with box hair color. This is virtually bullet proof and they can tweak it to what you want. and the more current your photos, the more likely they are to get it on the money. They will keep tweaking it till they get it right – and it’s YOUR personalized hair color.
