Getting “Stacked”: Bloggers Hit Stacked-Cerritos for Dinner! #Foodie #Sips #BuildYourOwn

I was recently able to visit a new STACKED restaurant in So. California. I was invited (along with my partner) to come have dinner with other bloggers and ‘test-drive’ this latest opening in the greater So. California area which includes Thousand Oaks, Cerritos, Torrance and San Diego with more on the drawing board. There is a theme to this restaurant which might be familiar: “build it and they will come” -but for Stacked it’s with a twist. “Let them build it and they will come” meaning you get to choose how the food you are ordering is put together. It’s not just about how the item is cooked, it’s how the entire order (fries, burgers, salads, desserts and more) are entirely put together. It’s more than just eliminating onions or tomatoes if you don’t like them, it’s about pure customization from the bun (or food type) up. You choose your bread, your meat choice, your condiments and add-ins (like lettuce, onions, sauces and more), toppings and lots more. This is done via iPad ordering that allows you to build your own ___________(fill in the blank). While ordering might take you a bit longer, it’s certainly going to give you exactly what you ordered and sure to make you happy (especially those with small children or picky eaters!)

This was a blogger event and we were given our meals free for attending and posting on Twitter, IG, Facebook and our blogs!
We were also provided with a gift card for a return trip. This was a fun event but it in no way affects my review.

What is Stacked?

From the STACKED website:

STACKED: Food Well Built is a full-service, casual restaurant with an innovative ordering approach that enables you to get exactly what you want, as you customize your meals in a comfortable, uninhibited way on a tablet at your table.
Our proprietary, tablet-based ordering system allows us to accomplish this, using a drag and drop feature that gives you the ability to visually build your meal right on the screen. Added benefits of the system are the ability to control when you order and control when you pay.
A vast majority of our guests appreciate that our ordering system enables them to easily customize their meal as they select their favorite ingredients to create their own personal masterpiece. But some guests prefer a traditional approach, where our server takes their order for them, and we are always happy to do so!

THE CHEW

I was invited along with several other bloggers to visit Stacked and I was hot to try this new innovation. I had heard about the San Diego branch from someone else and while I don’t get down to SD often, when I heard it hit Cerritos, I wanted to try it.

This is innovation and technology and applying it to restaurants. It’s smart and it does help to have some serious tech background or experiences with tablets like the iPad!!

You use an iPad menu to select the food you want and how you want it made. It’s very simple but it can take TIME. So if you are starving….. order a small appetizer and a drink (full bar and lots of options for non-alcoholic as well) to be get the best use of your iPad time.

bottle
Beer and a margarita were ordered but we also had other options to sample: beers, ciders and more! The margarita was great and very generous with the spirits so I didn’t drink too much. (DD)

We ordered an Flying Pigs appetizer: yummy bites of pork with a sauce that tastes heavenly. (No photos sorry! They were eaten too fast!)
We created 4 different sandwiches and had to cut it down to 2 because I wouldn’t even be able to eat an entire one!

There is a PDF of the menu at this link.

Partner’s burger : double patties (I think), double bacon, lettuce and onion rings on a special bun. This one was hot and spicy and I don’t remember what was put on it.

My burger: Mac & Cheese burger with bacon, no onions, lettuce, avocado on a pretzel bun!

We found the service to be great. Various servers were on hand to help everyone and anyone out. We got to talk to PR, Marketing, Bar people and also the co-CEOS too. One spent a chunk of time talking to us about the platform and premise of this restaurant. As one of the founders of BJ’s Pizza places (a place I used to go to until they shut down the store near me), they clearly had tons of experience. They decided to take food and restaurants to the next level.

Another blogger joined us at our table: TanayaG ( #‎TanayasTable‬ @TanayaG). She was covering for a video site PLUS her blog.

She ordered the short rib sandwich her way, fries, candied bacon, the flying pigs (on the platter in the foreground) a Cadbury Shake and lots more! It was so much food.

The partner’s shake (chocolate something!)

My shake the Turtle Pie which had extras that required a spoon! This chocolate junkie loves her chocolate!

I had a chance to meet other local bloggers that attended. It was so great to talk about not only this restaurant but the photos and how they got it to work. So much fun! I also had extended conversations with the bar manager about the brews, spirits and ciders that they feature.

We were also provided with a gift card for a return trip. This was a fun event but it in no way affects my review. I am planning on going back soon because I think it’s an interesting concept. I do know that the place is busy and there is a noise factor here — so it’s not the location of intimate conversations.

I loved Stacked. What was really interesting was that both my partner and I mentioned for a week how much fun we had at this event and how much we liked the food. While we haven’t been back yet, we are planning it very soon. It’s definitely on my radar to take friends and just for a fun, casual meal. It does help that it is adjacent to Los Cerritos Shopping Center!

  1. This is a technological wonder..I am sure this is very popular. I see pizza, taco, and wrap places doing this, minus the tablet at the table….the customer wins!!

  2. These two resto entrepreneurs are great. I love the restaurant! Food is terrific. It does take more time to go through the menu but when you know it’s perfect when you create it, you can save it when you register for an acct.
